I'm a little surprised by some of the responses here as well. If I was cashing out at a B&M and someone gave me too much money I would definately let them know about it. It happened once in Vegas (I was overpaid by $100) and the cashier told me she would have lost her job if I hadn't caught it and given it back. Sticking it to the man is one thing, but when someone can lose their livelihood because of it is another.

That seems a little excessive. What casino did she work at? I'm sure that with all the money they handle, counting errors do happen on occasion. I'm sure they'd count her drawer, so why wouldn't they just make her pay the money back if it's her error? That's what we always had to do at the grocery store I worked at for years.

Now, if you're talking about a couple thousand, then yeah, I can see her getting fired. Or, if the 100 bucks starts disappearing on a semi-regular basis ...

None of them are any worse than cheating on a University exam.

University exam lol. Im in the dumbest fresh college classes Ive ever taken that won't really help me out at all in life. Next semester will be different.

Either way it's not an excuse, and it is something I'll have to stop doing. I don't know how I convinced myself it's okay, probably in a similiar way ppl convinced themselves it's okay to steal just because they are getting raked.

Like I said stealing would be something entirely different. Stealing would be hacking into the system and changing your account balance. This is just keeping money that you found in your account.

If you found $100 dollars on the ground, would you turn it in to the police? If you picked it up and kept it would that be STEALING $100 from whoever's it was? Of course not, and it's the same thing here. You found $500 and you are keeping it

The dean in charge of observing and evaluating my teaching at school found a $1000 chip at MGM a couple of weeks ago.

Woooohoooo! That's what I'd say if I found that chip.

Now, if I saw someone drop it or if it was obvious who it belonged to, I'd immediately give it back. But if I just so happened to spot it in the middle of the hallway or something, drinks are on me!

He was just walking and saw it on the floor. He kind of looked around and nobody was there so he picked it up. The rule states that if you find it in the casino, it belongs to the casino. He didn't know what it was worth when he found it. It was black, I think, and pretty beat up.

He went to the cage and said:

My buddy had some good luck playing blackjack and gave me this chip and told me to have fun with it. Is this a real chip, or is he fucking with me? The lady said, "no, it's real."

100
200
300 and she just kept on going.

Lucky Day.

The dumbest college freshmen classes as opposed to what? The ones you took last year to compare them to?

You do realize that most college freshman classes are supposed to teach you to manage your time and develop good study habits...something vital to surviving the rest of college, right?

Thankfully I was taught this in high school and all the colleges classes did was make me bored out of my mind and never want to go to class. As soon as I started to take classes with my major it all turned around though and going to class and actually leraning something wasn't a drag anymore. This is a little OT but oh well.

So, if you are able to get a job based on your GPA being higher than a fellow applicant - and you cheated in the classes that didn't interest you to get your high GPA and the other applicant didn't cheat - you don't feel like you stole/cheated that job from him or her??

Or if someone who is not as intelligent as you are has to really work hard and apply himself/herself to get an 'A', and you cheat and get the same 'A' - you don't feel that sort of cheats/steals from the other students accomplishment, or at least minimizes it??

JUST SAW YOUR POST saying you were going to try to stop doing it. I guess you can ignore this then. I was sort of playing devil's advocate anyway.

Well, as I said, I let them know, and I got an email that they took out the money and said everything is straightened out. I still have about 100$ too much in there, Im just taking that now as a "thank you for your honesty".

On the note of cheating on university exams...Ive been teaching and proctoring organic chemistry for a number of years now, and go ahead cheat. If I catch you I will do everything in my power to get you expelled.

Good for you. I actually wrote a pretty scathing response yesterday, but decided not to post it, figuring you'd come to your senses in a day or two. Glad to see I made the right decision.

The finding a chip in the casino example is even better than mine of finding it on the floor. Technically it belongs to the casino -- so you'd be "stealing" if you didn't pick up the pick and return it to the cashier's cage. I would pick it up and put it in my pocket right away no doubt about it.

NOW, if a stranger was walking in front of me and I saw him drop the chip, that's a different story... however the example of this $500 is exactly the same as the first example above, which is why there is no doubt about I'd keep it and not think for a second otherwise

I thought they started putting microchips or something in the really big denominations for tracking, perhaps only a casino or two experimenting?

Same thing happen to me.

What actually happen was FCP was in the middle of switching networks from ongame to the new dsg network. Before the move, they promised players to give them back money they earned towards an uncleared bonus. Eg. If you clear 60% of a 100 dollar bonus, and never had the chance to complete the remaining 40% of the bonus, then they would give you $60 cash and give back $40 in bonus.

Obviously they screwed this up majorly and gave people too much money, but have since adjusted accounts to have it corrected...even though it appears they still screwed up the OP.
