Well congrats on your back-from-the-dead tourney finish.

The 5/10 NL game was harsh. When reading this is I was thinking that 600 seems low for a buy-in to a game of the size (In order to get my mind around playing for those stakes, I have to translate it to .50/$1, for which I'd want to sit with 100 dollars rather than 50. Or, in your case, $1000 dollars instead of $500!) But it doesn't seem like it would have made a difference, just would have ended up costing you more. It boggles my mind that you get guys calling $90 bets (9x the big blind!) pre-flop with J8.

Regardless, what a hell of a trip.

It was actualy a clear plastic cup. I've never been a coffee drinker. As for the beach, was going to go yesterday, but it was crappy out. I'ts sunny today, but there is poker to be played. You know how it goes.

I'm hoping to go diving on Tuesday, and maybe Monday too. Depends how well I do in these remaining tourneys. Which leads me to my next post...

So.... yesterday's tourney.

$460+40. Swapped 10% with bdawg and 5% with P0ker H0, who told me he was going to win it. 10 or 15 minutes later, he was out after moving in with his overpair 99 and getting called by A3 (pair of 3s) on the flop, only to see another 3 come on the river. Interesting call. bdawg got al his money in with a flopped wheel (A2 - 345 board) against 66... naturally a 2 came on the turn and that was the end of him.

For me, the tourney started off exactly opposite how the one the day before did for me. I lost some chips when I raised with AQ and someone moved in. I laughed and folded and he showed AK. At least he was nice enough to let me off cheap. A bit later, my KQ ran into AK. The flop was K rag rag, and I was able to get off it, but it cost me some chips too. the next thing I know, I'm down to 500 chips with pretty much no wiggle room any more (we started with 1500).

I hung on and played solidly, picking up some small pots, and basically just surviving. It was still really early. By the break (three 30 minute levels), I still only had 500ish chips and the blinds were 50/100. They moved up to 50/100 with a 25 ante, and I tripled up (I forget with what, but I had the best hand). Then I got moved to another table.

I continued to play solidly and built myself a decent stack. Got up to 6000, and as high as 7000ish, I think. Hung around that level forever, as other people kept dropping. We started with 140 players or so, and 20 would cash. 11-20th got $1000 each, and then it went up from there, with $20k going to the winner.

With 200/400 blinds and a 50 ante, I raised to 1200 from the button with 66. The BB pushed in on me and I was certain he had overcards, but I just couldn't call for 2/3 of my remaining stack. I would have been down to like 1200-1500 chips left, I think, so I let it go. He told me later he had KJ but knew I couldn't call. That stung. Maybe I hsould have just pushed in from the button, but the SB ad a mountain of chips, and I didn't want to risk him waking up with a hand.

Anyway, the next thing I know, I was short stacked again, and we were down to 24 players. I moved in 2-3 times before the bubble, picking up the blinds and antes uncontested each time. When we got to Hand For Hand play, only one guy was shorter stacked than me...

At one of the other tables, a guy got all in with J5o (yes, that's right) against AA who had him covered. The money went in on the flop, when he had 3rd pair (5), and sure enough, he hit a J on the turn. Disgusting. Did I mention that he went on to win the entire tournament??? That's right, he should have bubbled, and instead he took down $20,000+.

Meanwhile, I witnessed one of the worst plays I have EVER seen at at the other table. The short stack was down to 1000 chips after folding both of his blinds. The blinds were 400/800 with a 100 ante at this point. With 900 chips left, everyone folded to him on the button and he moved in. The SB completed, and the BB went into the tank. The SB said to him, quite obviously, "It's 100 more for you to call his ALL IN bet." With everyone standing around and watching now (because he took so damn long), the BB made a big raise. The SB threw his cards into the muck in frustration and then the idiot BB turned over 73o. W T F ? ? ? The entire room erupted. He bluffed into a dry side pot, ON THE BUBBLE, with garbage. He managed to suck out and hit a 7, but come on.... what a joke.

So, I was in the money. With my stack dwindling and the BB coming, I pushed in with 67 from UTG. I got one caller, who had AK. My cards were live until the river, but the AK (who had 300 chips more than me) held up and I was out. 20th place - $1000 cash. I'll take it. Paid the same as 11th. Had I won that pot, btw, I would have had > 9000 chips... the guy who took me out went on to finish 5th, and was actually chip leader at one point.

All in all though, I'm happy with another fairly big live tourney cash. That's 2 for 2 for me here, and 4 of my last 5, dating back to the WSOP.

I'll be playing in another $500 tourney tonight.

Oh, one more crazy hand to write about: This was earlier in the tourney... A weak player raised the 100/200 blinds to 600 from MP. It folds around to me in the BB, and I look down and see KT. I look up to take a look at what's in the pot, and I see the entire deck being shuffled, including the raiser's cards!!! What the hell? "Um - excuse me," I say. the TD gets called over, and he makes an incorrect ruling. He gives the raiser the pot, but gives me my BB back. I didn't want to make a big stink about it, but because I had the only non mucked cards, that pot should have been mine. It's each players responsibility to protect their cards. I pulled him aside later and explained that he had made the wrong ruling, and he immediately realized it and felt terrible. I told him it was cool, but just for future reference ,etc... And who knew how much I could have used those 700 chips later on, ya know?

So... today's tourney was going great. I doubled my chip stack through good play (small pots, mostly) in no time. I played fairly tight after that, and bounced my stack around a bit. I took a couple of guys out, but also made two BIG folds to one other player at the other end of the table. I didn't mind though - I knew I was just setting him up for later. Go ahead - keep popping my raises with your all in bets. I'll get ALL THOSE CHIPS back sooner or later.

Anyway, things were going well, until this hand came up... and keep in mind, I have a fairly tight image at this point. With 3 or 4 limpers in front of me (100/200 blinds), I call from the button with 64. The flop comes 335 and it check all the way around to me (6 players in the hand, I think). I decided to take a card off and check as well. The turn is a beautiful looking 2, and I know I have he best hand. They check around to me again, and I fire 450 into the pot.

Anyhoo, where was I? Ah, yes, I bet 450 fter someone said "that card didn't help anyone," knowing it would look like a positional bet and that I'd probably get some action. The SB folded and the BB pushed in (hello!). everyone else folded and was very surprised when I insta-shoved my stack in. I knew I had the best hand and he either thought his 3 was good or I would fold, since I was "stealing." He proudly turns over his 39 and I say, "Well, I've got a straight." So, naturally, the turn was a 5, and he filled up on me. This crippled my stack (put me down to like 3 BB), and when I pushe din with A7s a couple of hands later, KQ took me out after he made trips. Gotta love it.

That was a bit frustrating, to say the least.

Oh, and I swapped 5% with P0ker H0 again, and tonight he lasted 23 minutes. hehe....Silly man got all in with AA vs A4 (dinner plans apparently), and QJ. WTF? Two fours hit the flop and he was out. Sick...

Tomorrow is a $1000 tourney that I plan on playing in, but I hard about a really sweet sounding "Battleship" thing they might be doing in the morning. I need to get the details. What I heard though is they want people to bring their laptops and they will set the up across from each other, Battleship style. Each person will play the other one Heads Up and go through a bracket or something. Then they'll replay the finals or something on Poker Stars sometime.

Sounds awesome. The buy in (I heard) is $1000. Ehh..... If it was $500, I'd do it in a flash, but $1000...... not sure. I'm going to look into it and decide. Sounds wicked fun though. Playing HU online, but with the ability to look your opponent in the face! What a cool idea.

Damn... that was awesome. I'm really glad I decided to go for it, despite my weak showing.

Chatted with Grinder a bit... he told me he plays these ALL THE TIME online. $5000 and $2000 ones. He says he usually does the $2k ones, because there is a lot less variance. He doesn't keep track, but he guesses he has a 2:1 win rate. That's sick.

So, I'm out, and I missed the start of the $1000 NL tourney, so I guess I'm done for the day. Maybe I'll enjoy Atlantis, or maybe I'll get in the 4:30 tourneys nd watch football here in the lobby. Hmmmmmmmm...

Evelyn Ng just walked in here. My God, she looks good. Definitely the best looking female poker player. And I say that with "Jennicide" sitting about 20 feet that way.
