agreed
Yea but with only $10 if they hit that 1-2 outer then there goes your roll. I think playing the NL game is a fine Idea, just saying it can all be gone in one hand. |

He asked a silly question regarding his bankroll size.
I was merely guiding him away from tourneys... I also likened playing tourneys with a $10 bankroll to that of finding a quarter and a slot machine, or putting all of it on one hand.... Basically it would be hope and prayer... (and even that wouldn't be enough). Was it a personal attack? No. Each time he whines that I pick on him and must not like him, he forgets to ask these questions: Did ChipFish even look to see who posted this? Does ChipFish care one way or the other? Did ChipFish actually give me good advice? Does the good advice change if ChipFish had of given me kind words of encouragement rather than blatently keeping me from doing something stupid with my bankroll? And Lou: Question for you. Is there any similarity between the slots and all-in statement, and using your entire bankroll to play a multi? You're a smart guy. I'll just answer for you. A) YES. All 3 are completely determined by luck. And to answer the next question, No. Multi's are not luck-based. But there is the element of luck that allows 1-2-or3 outers to hit.

MTTs aren't based on luck?
Funny. Dan Harrington and other tournament / poker pros disagree with you. Skill takes you a long way, but you need you get lucky and win your fair share of coinflips. You're a smart guy. You knew that. And regarding all that other stuff: your advice, in my opinion, was shitty.

Let's add the word that should have been there all along but I omitted by mistake. That should make more sense now. My bad.
However, this is the point I was trying to make.... Bad Luck = No more bankroll. Understand the advice now?

In the future, when you find yourself backpeddling, instead of "my bad," use the Latin counterpart: "mea culpa." At least you'll sound smarter.
It's late, I have to get some sleep. See you all tomorrow.

These $10 bankroll threads make my dick hurt.
BigJohn, If you have no means to make deposits (i.e. no credit, no money, NO CHECKING ACCOUNT?) it's probably a pretty good indicator that you shouldn't be gambling. Yeah, it's a free $10, so have fun. If you wanna play in a MTT, enjoy it. It's free money. But, unless you wanna grind it out playing micro-stakes at the limit tables, I wouldn't worry about "building a bankroll."

First off dickwad, I am not backpeddling.
Perhaps had I given poor advice to begin with; such as "tourney players at Pacific are really poor, you should play tourneys with your $10 to build your roll", then everyone would be happy. Well, Bigjohn wouldn't be happy. He'd be broke. It's that simple. If he's playing with a Starting bankroll of $10, he should NOT be playing tourneys. Now then. Advice can change with a different bankroll. He's at roughly $40 bucks now. If I remember correctly Pacific has $2+.25or+.5 SNGs.... Easy money there. Now, he can make the choice of playing micro-limit ring games, or small but-in tourneys.

all chip is saying is that a big MTT tourney has so much luck involved that BigJohn would be better off putting it in a slot machine or putting it on a number on the roulette table.
He said it straight forward and everyone thinks he is insulting him. He isnt ripping the fact that he has $10... he is just saying that a MTT is compared to a slot machine or roulette or some other game with a $10 bankroll since if you cash in like 20% of MTT you are considered good and the odds of cashing in the only MTT you will be able to play with $10 is not good. |

my two cents
Ironically enough - it seems the easiest way to turn a $10 bankroll into a $30 bankroll is start some long, drawn out debate about it and then have TP pay you $20 for generating the most posts.
It would even be MORE ironic if TP has the same contest in April - and someone could start a big debate regarding whether he should take the $20 cash or the $30 book. I feel in some way i am contributing to the madness by adding to this thread - but i can't help myself. |

Whats with the insults on the small bankrolls? I thought this was a poker forum and not a poker for people with money forum. Doesnt seem like the best way to recruit more people. Plus, I have more respect for someone who turns nothing into something, small bankroll into big; its more rewarding too if you ask him.

Free money is always appreciated
I whored Pacific a long time ago, then cashed out and left, so I was pleasantly surprised to receive snail mail notification of my $10 free. I've run it up to $30 playing .25/50 limit in fairly short order. I'm using the super-sophisticated strategy of folding garbage and betting premium hands hard. It's 7 to a flop right now, but I assume it will get tighter once a lot of people burn off the $10. Goal will be to make it to $50, then cash out.

I think this thread is worth the book. Not only for the sheer number of posts, but (if you've been following it) it's much more interesting than other boring threads like: Cashing Out Habits and my "Gambler" thread.
Just my opinion. And another post.

well ive had some success with stars.... doing a lot of differnet things.. i got 10 bux from lou, got it up to 50 by playing heads up matches, then i won 1st out of 2000 in a 1$ entry tourney so i had 400 more to play with.... then i used that to pay off debts and started over with 3 bux, playign 1 cent / 2 cent blinds, built it up, played a combination of low no limit cash games and sit n gos until i had 50 again. then i just stuck w ith .25/.5 no limit, and have built it up to $350. just do whatever youre best at, but at low stakes. its a pain to build up in low LIMIT, i highly reccomend low stakes no limit cash games.

hey
well as I posted in another thread I started with $25 and now have over $500 starting at those low limits. Im not big fan of low limits, much rather be playing 2/4 but if you have to start somewhere then its not bad. It can be done but its very boring!!

I agree that the low-limits must be boring.
Heck, I would love to be playing $100/200 NL... But let's face facts.... Unfortunately, that's what alot of people refuse to do. They refuse to face facts.... They continue to play in games in which they are not properly rolled for. Some of them win. Many more lose. If I were to go broke, (which will only happen when I take a shot) then I know that I would be unable to play the penny games to work my roll back. I would put money aside and re-deposit a starting roll. I have alot of respect for those that are willing to grind out a roll at the pennytables, without risking their roll in higher limits.... These are the players that have the "dedication" to learning the game... These are the players to have on your buddy list, and to avoid in your games at all costs... They know the value of a Dollar.
