Default pokertracker databases

I did a search of the forum and didnt get the answer to this and I know alot of you guys use this so I'am asking here instead of the pokertracker forum (sorry tp).

I want to have a different database for every month I play but I also want a main database that has all my stats from every month. So the question is, Is there a way to have pokertracker import to 2 differnent databases at a time? Do I just have both of them open at same time?

I'm not sure how to do this. But I'm thinking that having a different database for each month is a little unnecessary and probably time consuming. If I need to look at my stats for separate months, I just use the filter options in Pokertracker. That works just as well to keep track of how I am doing from month to month.

Why do you want to do this? I don't believe this is possible, and it is definitely unnecessary. The only reason to make "new" dbs is to prevent them from getting too big and importing slowly, etc... but this shouldn't be a problem until you are in the million hand neighborhood or so anyway, and no way are you going to get that many hands in per month.

I would advise having a separate db for your Observed hands though, at least if you plan on doing a good bit of datamining, which you should be doing. Just make sure you set up your auto-import window(s) properly and tell it which db to send which hands to, and you'll be good to go.

I really only play on stars and you cant datamine stars, it is against their rules, asked pokerace guy about that.

if you start a new database and keep both open then where do the hands go? Seems that they would go to both since they are both open, I wont be playing for a couple days so I cant test it out. I will next week though.

Observed hands go to the DB you tell them to go to in the Auto-Import Window.

Hands you play go to the DB you tell them to go to in the Auto-Import Window.

You don't even have to have both DBs open.

You didn't know that you could filter your stats? So, when people post graphs here for one session or for one month or whatever, how did you think they did that?

You seriously need to spend like 15 minutes bouncing through the various tabs in PT to at least get familiar with the absolute most basic stuff like this.

thanks...duh. BTW have you had problems with pokerace hud numbers not updating while you are playing? Mine are not updating unless I close pokerace hud and reopen it, I have been asking pokerace guy about this but seems like it might just be my problem.

One more tip for you while we're on the topic:

Do yourself a favor and convert your DB(s) to PostgreSQL ASAP. This will save you a lot of time later. If you don't know what I'm talking about, start here:

There is a link in that thread to the step by step instructions.

In summary: It's a good thing. It allows much bigger (and more efficient?) databases. So just do it now, because it will be much faster than when you have a zillions hands in your db.

Default new question

ok new question,

say my observer database got to a million hands, not gonna happen soon but eventully will. So now at this point I need to start a new database and when you start a new database it asks if you want to move stats from existing database over, if I click yes does it just move the stats like vp$ip over or does it move all the hands over also, because if it just moves the numbers and not the hands that would rock.

i tried this but got a error message during installation, beats me.

gonna try again.

I tried to do it with observed hands and getting a error message. I will wait till I have more of my own hands before attempting it again.
