Mets overpaid
Pedro gave us Sox fans plenty of great memories, and I'll wish him the best. But I'm glad it was Mets giving him $50 mil rather than the Sox. At 33, I think his best years are behind him. Roger Clemens has everybody thinking that pitchers get better with age, but I'm not so sure.
But then what do the Sox go and do? Sign 41-year-old Wells |

Pedro is a small power pitcher... thats why he breaks down. Clemens on the other hand is a big texan and works out year round... He could pitch another 3-4 yrs if he wanted to.

The Mets are not going to be a 60 win team. And you act like one year of guaranteed money is a little thing, an extra year and an extra $16 million is quite a lot. I would've been upset if the Mets had offered 4 years 48-50 million or 3 years 45 million and Pedro had taken it, because those are within the realm of him being able to reasonably take a home town discount. But when the offer is by far superior then you can't really blame him for taking it. The Mets overpaid, Pedro got a great deal, the Sox got outbid by a GM who was clearly willing to overpay, it worked out for both sides.

I'm not saying 16 mil. isnt alot. Of course noone would say that. but he had it made in boston. You had the latin connection, the fans love him, etc. etc. but whats going to happen when he does something silly and all of NY goes apeshit on him. He's not going to handle it well. In boston everyone kind of lets Manny and Pedro off the hook. Hey its just Manny being Manny etc. The Mets will not be a very good team for the next few years. You can tell me all you want about who they added etc, but they're the Mets afterall. He had a chance to stay in Boston, and compete for the Series every year. I just dont get it. Of course I know I have never had, and never will have this type of dilemma, but I honestly think he made the wrong decision, for many different reasons. Of course we are all greatful for the great, amazing years Pedro gave us. We all wish him the best. And we can all hope he blows his arm out for good as well, lol.

Pedro pretty much went for the money, the Mets really like to spend money on high risk pitchers. Pedro is a great pitcher and we'll probobly do well in Shea Stadium, but 4 years is a lot of years tied down to someone so fragile.

All drewjax did was voice his opinion that he thought Pedro made the wrong choice going to the Mets. He never said anything about not liking Pedro, he even said he was grateful for what Pedro did in Boston and wished him well. Mike Lupica and Bob Ryan also shared drewjax's sentiment on a recent Sportscenter piece.
