Bdawg31 vs Penguinfan worst luck battle!!!!!
OK Bdawg, I see that you too in a previous life must have been part of the Kennedy assasination. After getting hit with my third, yes THIRD ONE-OUTER in 5 days I too am about ready to call it quits.
Granted two of those three outers came playing PLO8, but still when you flop the stone cold nuts, IMPROVE on the turn and still manage to get rivered, it sucks no matter what you are playing. About 10 mins ago I get A29T and flop TT2, thats the nuts the way I see it, now this is PLO CAP $30 so I bet the pot and get two callers, I imaging A-3 or even 2-2 at this point, maybe. Turn is a 9, went from the nuts to the better nuts and now there is no low draw, player to my right bets the pot, I raise and it finally gets capped. She has AA39, not a problem, I'm holding an Ace and thats her only out, hehehehehe. Ace on the river, just like it was scripted. Thats the third one in 5 days. I suggest we play heads up matches till one of us sucks out on the other to win, if all the chips go in and the best hand wins then it doesn't count. Only if the chips go in and someone less than 60/40 wins the match does it count. Loser kills himself. Deal?

hey
I know you dont want to hear this but I really really dont like how you played this at all. The check-raise on the flop with AQ I really dont like, yea his play was sad but thats besides the point. Now im not getting into his play at all because it was sad but yours wasnt that great at all. Now I have played before with you and I know you play solid usually but seems like you are playing purley on steam right now which is never good. I mean even if you have him on totally no hand I still wouldnt want to get it all in on a complete bluff, now I dont mind betting the flop with a simple continuation bet but check-raising all in not likey. what I like doing when im bluffing is try to make it look like I hit something. I mean if you really had a overpair with that flop would you normall check/raise all in? I know I wouldnt so yea your play to me would look like a bluff. I think a better play would of been a continuation bet on flop then slow down unless a "scare" card hit that you could represent. actully looking over his hand I dont mind the call or his bet on the flop, I mean he had the 2nd highest flush draw and a gutshot, so If he put you on 2 big cards or even a overpair he has 12 outs. If he just has you on 2 big cards without a king he has another 6 outs so discount a couple seeing that the King might be dead he has somewhere aroun 15-16 outs and 2 cards to go. His call preflop was questionable but after that I think he did fine, he bet on flop with a decent draw and when you re-raised all in it was only $500 or so to call. not to mention he has a 3-1 chip advantage on you before this hand, so he had to call about $600 to win the $2300 now in the pot. I think I would of called the bet. this isnt a bad beat, bad outcome yes but bad beat no. Last edited by BrianSwa; 09-29-06 at 05:00 PM. |

Traditionally you would need more than King hi to call an all-in bluff though, wouldn't you?
In his spot I would be concerned about an overpair or set and I was trying to push him off a flush draw, thats how I wold have seen it from his spot, but then again if you call 250 with K3, maybe I gave him too much credit to start with. I am it no way saying I played it text book fashion, and yes I am playing a bit on steam these days, but I was PRETTY sure I was ahead and I was gonna let him bluff at it then re-steal it, as it was, well....... I honestly think I may be finished at this point, I just withdrew all but $50 from my Full Tilt account to Neteller and don't really have any thoughts about putting it in another account right now.

The problem is you allowed him to put 1/2 his stack in, so when u push after that it's kinda odd since you expect to be called. Do you have the best hand? you possibly do, otherwise you have 6 outs (overs)
I don't hate your play actually (the idea behind it), but it's not ideal in this situationbc of how large of a bet he made and its obvious that he's committed On a side note Brian you have to play a bit of level 2 poker, you cant jus look at your own cards otherwise aware opponents will steal a large percent of pots from you simply by playing back. In addition you say you WOULDN'T play an overpair like that -- that is the beauty of playing it that way then isn't it? Switching up your game is very important.

I didn't even realize opponent had a diamond draw as well, I thought it was strictly on the gutshot.
In THIS case yea Penguin you were a dog on this flop, almost 65/35 dog actually, as he had 18 outs twice

Come on JD, thats not the point and I think you know it. Twice that player called big bets with nothing, sure after the flop it was better than the nothing I had, but is this a good call on their part?
Every hand doesn't have to go to a showdown. This one clearly should not have, as it was, well........

Yes Penguin, it was a good call, in fact it is a borderline no brainer call (his PF call was horrible, Im not debating that, Im talking about on the flop)
On the flop after he bets and you push he has to call a bet of 590 into a pot that has 2200 in it. Roughly 3.75:1 on his money. He has a flush draw and a gutshot here, as well as a King This means that he has 12 outs if you have AA or KK, 15 outs if you have QQ or any lower overpair. or even more if you are on a move with over cards (as u were). The worst case scenario for him is you have a hand such as A Q . He still has 10 outs, but you have a lot of redraw outs and cards that could have him drawing dead on the turn.... . Even against a set he'd only be a 2:1 dog This range puts him anywhere from a FAVORITE to at worst a 3:1 dog. Either way with the amount of his stack he's invested, would have remaining and the size of the pot and the pot odds this is a good caller, borderline no brainer

yes
yea I agree that switching up your play is very important but this really does look like a bluff to me. But with that board it is a bad play with AQ plain and simple there are sooo many draws out right now and I dont want to semi/bluff here with AQ, because honestly it is a bluff because you have to put your opponent on total rags that didnt hit to make that play correct? truth is the guy had a great draw and made a pretty simple call seeing as he had soo much in pot and still had like 2k or so behind if he lost here. with as many draws out your right I might of pushed with overpair Last edited by BrianSwa; 09-29-06 at 05:26 PM. |

yea
now im not saying his preflop play was good but you were behind on the flop. All im saying is this is not the way I would of played it and would of checked it through after the turn and most likley he would of also seeing as he didnt hit any of his outs really. |

I just wanted to add here zybomb, I make plays like this but I pick my spots very carefully. The thing is I have to have a pretty good read on the player and figure he would lay down a hand to me. I mean im not going to make this play against a weak player seeing as I would expect a call but against a strong player im commiting them to pot and hoping they dont hit something. so lets put it this way. against you im just continuation betting with my overpair againt eejit im going all in. just kidding eejit actully im not |

well then what was the point, b/c that wasnt bad luck. hell ya he has to call there after the action. u expect him to fold a FD and inside str8 draw there with the possiblilty of live cards too?

easy
you wait till you have a monster and trap them. basicly you cant get cute and make plays against bad players it just dosent work. Those are the players where you want to have a monster then get cute when you know you are going to stack them. Last edited by BrianSwa; 09-29-06 at 08:08 PM. |
