1. I disagree. I think that hand has plenty of showdown potential and risking being check raised is a terrible idea. Remember, this is a tourney, not a cash game. If you think he value bet with a 9 was a must, then you must think me check/calling with my full house was even worse, yes?
2. I had a pair of 5s and a big draw (not "just a pair") but I see what you are saying. I don't hate my flop call though... what I hate is my turn call.
3. Agreed. It was very badly played. But it's possible I could get him off a better hand here - quite a few of them in fact, including a hand like he was holding! He instacalled, but there are plenty of people who would fold there. Was it worth the risk though? Probably not. It was a clear error, and I'll be the first to acknowledge that. But the fact remains, that was a very unlucky flop for me.

Point #1. With the way the hand played out, how can you assume that trip 9s are not the best hand? You called a turn bet with a very drawy board. I certainly cannot put you on a big hand here because wouldn't you put in a substantial reraise on the turn? That would most likely be my thought process if I proceeded to the river. I would put you on AK-KJ type hand (which I doubt you would fold given my image towards you) or a draw.

As for fearing the check/raise, I wouldn't think that a tight player like you would bluff check/raise me in this spot. If you do, I have no problem folding trip 9s.

Personally, I would have put out a fake blocker bet on the river with your hand since your hand appears to be a king, and villain may try to bluff you out if you do so if he has a whiffed draw or put in a reraise if he somehow found himself with three 9s. I don't really know which I prefer more (check/calling/raising) since I can't remember the last time I played a big hand so meekly.

This should probably be in a different thread, but I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. One minute you are saying you put me on a draw, which obviously can't call a bet on the end when it missed, and then next you say you are putting me on a King, which you think I called a raise with on the turn and then can't fold unimproved on the river...??? Your image of me is so off base that I can't really respond appropriately. Maybe if you were actually at the table and knew the feel of the game, the size of all the stacks involved and all the subtle little things that happen as a hand progresses, you'd think differently and maybe even give me credit for being a half decent player who isn't going to call off 75% of his stack with TPTK or worse... but then again, maybe not. But I honestly believe that I played that particular hand perfectly and extracted the absolute maximum amount of chips I could from my opponent. Had I bet the end (your fake blocker bet idea), there is no way in the world he's raising there. Absolutely none.

In other news, I went downstairs tonight to register for tomorrow's $1000 tourney. I don't think I'm going to play in Sundays $750, but I am gong to play tomorrow... why not. Maybe I won't play as badly as I played (the river of the KK hand and the turn of the 54 hand) today. I honestly feel like I played really well the rest of the day.... Two mistakes in 7 hours isn't that bad... unfortunately, they ended up being significant ones.

Anyway, on my way to register, I heard some dude shouting something from one of the craps tables. It was Steve Danneman, so I went over to say hello. I was wearing my "Future Millionaire" tshirt (it's a joke, even though it's true), and he really liked it. I think I got at least a half a dozen comments on it while wandering around tonight. Anyway, I watched the shooter pay off Steve for a few rolls and then snuck out of there when he rolled a 7. Cool guy.

I also decided to play online a bit tonight. I was up $1200+ at the "end" of my session, but lost a couple of sizeable pots in my last orbit and finished up $700something. Eh... I'll take it. I'm no JD/Boobie, you know. Oh, I also missed an open ended straight (royal) fluh draw on a nearly $1300 pot... that would have been a nice hit. Anyway, the point is, I'm looking forward to hitting the online cash games pretty hard when I get home next week.

That's sucks!

Now, what about the satty story? That sounds like it will be more entertaining.

I'll be here tomorrow - just not sure how late yet. Checking out in the AM, but should be here most of the day.

I'll try to get to this tomorrow. It's a good thing I waited, because guess who showed up and sat immediately to my right in the 2/5 NL game I played in today? That's right, none other than the miserable old Russian jackass who I got into it with during the satty... Go figure. I've been in exactly three "fights" at live poker tables in my lifetime now, and TWO of them were with this same douchebag in the past four days.

More tomorrow.
