Default Winning Secrets of Poker

I've bought and read over 20 books on poker since I got to Iraq.
I just thought I'd post about the "winning secrets of poker" by Peter Thomas Fornatale.

Basically this whole book is nothing but interviews with some of the more notable player in the game today. It talks about a lot of subjects from Late night poker in the UK Phil hellmuths experiences in the NBC heads up tournaments

David Sklansky's interview is great as he goes off on a rampage about other players

Then the author tells the other interviewee's about some of the other players comments.

DAnial Negranau then goes off on a tear about Sklansky

Some of the interviewee's talk about their strategys and some of them will not quoting "Why should I help others get better so they can take my money"

If your looking for a book that has a ton of strategy, tidbits, equations then it's not for you.
But if your looking for a GREAT read with up's down's and personal insights from some of the worlds "top" players then I would suggest this book purely on it's entertainment values it is the best read i've had in a while and a nice surprise.
Hellmuths is the best just because of his "The whole world is against me interview" heh heh Later all

one more thing
EXACT QUOTE FROM DANIEL NEGREANU

Sklansky and Hellmuth are not bad people, they're just not great poker players"

I like negreanu but to say a 10 time bracelet winner from the WSOP and NUMEROUS other wins is not a great player is kinda well......stupid am I wrong?

That is an extremely stupid thing to say, but maybe it's just Negreanu's way of saying that they're both a little too reckless for his tastes. After all, what exactly makes a great poker player?
Then again, I wouldn't exactly call Negreanu a tight player.

is not a tight player at all, he plays alot of flops for the reason he feels he can put people on hands and outplay them after the flop which is exactly what he does. I have no idea why he would make a statement like this though seems really out of character for him. Maybe he was having a bad day.

Actually, I suspect it's quite the opposite.

And while Hellmuth and Sklansky are both excellent poker players compared to all of us, they are not in the same class as Negreanu. He probably shouldn't have said that, but what he meant was that those guys couldn't handle playing in the Big Game day in and day out. They would go broke. I can't speak for Sklansky, because I don't know, but while Hellmuth is an amazing tourney player (one of the best ever), he's not that great of a cash game player.

Anyway, sounds like a really interesting read. Thanks for the review.

Yes he will... he's taking a break from the game. He's still up there for the year, or so he says.

I don't know. I think Sklansky could hold his own against Danny at LHE and split pot games.

Hellmuth's a tourney player who does not do well in cash games, and Sklansky's a limit cash game player.

I think the "Big Game" is an aberration in the poker world. A strong player can make a perfectly good living playing 30/60 - 100/200 limit or 10/25 - 25/50 blind NL. Above that it becomes more ego than anything else. An over-bankrolled 40/80 limit pro can make more in a year than 80% of the working stiffs in the country with negligible risk of ruin.

In fact, seeing the games Daniel sits in tells me that he's not as good as Sklansky in that most important of poker skills - game selection.

I had to read the Alan Boston interview twice it was so good

Hellmuth calls boston an idiot at the table
so in pretty much exact words he says 1 let's take an IQ test and leave it at that or 2 we go outside and I kick the (bleeping) shit out of you. DON'T YOU EVER DISRESPECT ME

phil nods quietly and never says a bad word to him ever again

Boston goes on to talk about doing coke with stu ungar and their relationship
(this is super insightful as to the REAL stu ungar)

To me mr Bostons Interview is just awsome he speaks from the heart he's not trying to promote books or ideas he just tells you the facts straight up with a lot of F-Bombs....

Also he makes great mention of a movie called California Split has anyone here ever seen it ????

Boston talks about the ending to the movie and compares it to Stu Ungar's life.
