limit vs. no-limit
ok here is my opinion I love limit everything limit ring games, limit sit and go's and limit MTT. Alot of you will say Limit MTT suck because you cant push your chips around which I disagree with because you can once the blinds get high enough. I just dont like going all in with my tornament life against someone who seems to be hitting every draw. But I do play no-limit alot won a freeroll torney last night on bugsys for percentage points in no-limit but have to tell you I like playing there limit games much better.

I also like limit. I play in almost exclusively limit ring games, I dont play much NL ring games at all. I do like NL tourneys to keep me sharp, as this is all the rage you know. Most sites dont have many good limit tournies, at least that I have seen. What sites do have decent ones (low buyins etc) and good chip/blind structure? also, what differences do you think there are in playing well in that type of tourney??

Maybe it's the limits I'm playing, but it seems like there's a lot more luck involved in Limit than NL. In limit, you need to get the good hands and have them hold up. In NL you can knock off all the chasers with a solid bet.

I think starting out NL is easier than limit. I mean for me, limit is a much 'muddier' a game. For NL it's a lot more clear cut and you don't really have to worry about 'saving bets' and that kind of stuff.
Also easier to exploit terrible players mistakes. That being said I plan on attempting to become a decent limit player. Seems like there's more potential in limit than NL, so I'm gonna give it a try in a few weeks (for a month or 2). Cheers, Gutzz |

More people will chase their draws in limit than in NL. You can get rivered in limit just the same as you can in NL, but sometimes it hurts your stack less in limit. And when people push in with the draws is usually benefits you, because they'll miss it more often than they will catch it on the river.

basicly
basicly you can say the same thing for either argument in nl you will lose half your stack to someone nailing the river on a bad call. At least in limit you only lose couple bets to it which you can gain back when the idiot misses. |

They can chase all they want in NL, I'm going to make a lot more money by them calling off their money in the long run. However, in limit, people can get the correct pot odds to make a reasonable call on their draws.
You must have your hand hold up in order to win in limit, but in NL, if someone were to chase, they'll be paying a hefty price to do so, and if they miss, you can win a lot more than in limit. |

I enjoy limit more than no limit because I feel that there are smaller swings, which can account for a smaller bankroll. And for where I am right now, that's perfect.
I also notice that a lot of people say that you can't scare people away from the flop as much in a limit game because of the limited betting. But I find that in limit games people will lay down marginal hands much more often, because you can't win one huge hand and win it all back. When you do get a hand, you don't win nearly as much as you do in NL, and that forces you to tighten up your playing style. |

Limit does frustrate me because you can't knock people off the draws. If you have a made hand and are in last position, people will check to you if you raised or bet on a betting round, so they do not have to call 2 bets. So most of the time your good hands don't pay off.
In no limit, I am always looking to double up and dominate the smaller stacks. Sometimes it backfires on me but for the most part I am able to win pots by throwing too much money around or have other players make wrong decisions. David |

Hate NL!
I like playing NL, but the one thing I hate the most is you make one mistake and your out. You play aewsome for hours and hours, build your stack, and lets say you have trip Q's and two diamond, you go all in to stop the flush draw, and your opponent who has you covered hits his 33% flush chance. WTF is up with that? How fun is it to have hours of good play erased with one hand?

Thats why I stay away from NL ring games. Of course NL MTT can have the same occurances. You can play a large one, put in 3+ hrs., play your ass off, and lose one big pot and you're out. But at least you didnt actually lose all those chips as $. You know what you're going to lose in a tourney, so it seems that the hurt is lessened.

To say 1 or the other is more luck demonstrates a lack of understanding in either.
they are very different games. both have a luck factor. both will have bad beats. both will have suckout from people chasing draws. but bad beats and suckouts should be the exception, not the norm in both. personally I prefer no limit b/c I feel is allows for more creativity. there's multiple ways to play a hand. limit (for the most part) it's correct to bet & raise when the EV for you is + and check/fold when it's not. if you can do the math, you're 1/2 way there to limit. no limit gives more latitude in soft playing b/c that turn or river bet can be any amount, you don't have to worry about building a pot early. |
