Death and Poker
I suddenly woke up last night and wondered what is going to happen to Sea's money in her online poker accounts. She had warning, of course, and probably arranged her affairs before going into the hospital.
But what about you folks, especially the ones with big bankrolls? If you were tragically killed in a car accident tonight, what would happen with your online deposits? Would your significant other or parents be able to access that money? I assume the family can send a copy of the death certificate to all the poker sites, and arrange some kind of cashout. But if you have a password on your machine, how do they even know what sites to contact? Has anyone thought of this already and made it easy for their executor? Perhaps a list of sites, userids, passwords, and instructions on how to cash out, kept in a safe place? |

Absolutely thought of, and taken care of.
Good suggestion.

All neteller, ING, and poker account log-ins or passwords are written down for my wife. She's also been instructed to get in touch with a select few on here if she were to have any problems w/ cash out procedures.

I have them stored all in a password file that's on my hdd. Nikki would be able to access everything then.
As for pissing her off, well, I know all her passwords too so that's what's called Mutally Assured Destruction boys and girls |

Good idea for a thread, MB.
This struck me randomly a while ago - inside the last year - and not just about my poker accounts, but about all sorts of stuff. I have investments all over the place. Many of them send snail mail occasionally, which I assume would somehow get to my parents after I'm gone. They would then be able to track down the sender and sort things out. But man, what a pain that would be for them. Then there are the places that don't send snail mail - you know, like the many poker sites where I currently have funds. I didn't make a list of them all (maybe I should), but they are all here on my computer (most with the passwords set to auto log on), so that would be a start... provided someone could figure out how to log on to my computer, which is of course password protected. Anyway, when I thought of this, I actually took some time to put together a list of all my important info - assets, liabilities, mortgage info, contact info for insurance companies (hurricane prep), accountant, lawyer, etc, etc, and I put it in a safe deposit box at the bank. I told my parents that said safety deposit box exists, so again, hopefully that would get them on the right track. I guess I could do a lot more, but I feel like I've at least made a good start. I really should have a will drawn up someday though. We all should... |

Thanks Adam. My sympathies go out to all those who will feel this lose. From the descriptions of what an amazing person Sea was we are all worse off without her, although hopefully she has found peace.

My wife knows the location of all my pertinent info on the sites and NETeller, as well as detailed instructions of what to do to get that money into her hands should I meet my demise unexpectedly.
