Temporary Chat Room for Special Events
Okay, took another quick look. This one doesn't actually integrate into vB but seems EXTREMELY easy to install:
It's free too! Here's another one. Free too! Looks more robust than the one above: Again, seems easy to install. Just need to create a MySQL database and run the install script. Last edited by Robbie Robb; 06-21-06 at 09:01 PM. |

An AIM session is VERY much an option. I believe that a chat room was suggested for this special purpose so that it wouldn't be necessary for everyone to download a specific program. I don't use AIM, I'm sure there are others that don't use AIM. I downloaded it a few months ago because it seems like pretty much everyone here uses it. I hated it - found the interface to be extremely clunky and just not worth the resources. I uninstalled it. I'm still getting spam from AIM and their partners. Grr.

So set up a fake hotmail account, install AIM, have the draft, and then uninstall it if you hate it so much. As for the "clunky" interface... IT couldn't get much simpler, could it?
The chat room thing is still an option (I haven't had a chance to look into this yeat), but I personally think AIM would be just as easy. |

I actually did just end up downloading the beta version of AIM Pro. I haven't installed it yet, but it comes highly recommended from one of the more respected members of the internet community, Chris Pirillo (aka LockerGnome).
The funny part about all of this is that I'm probably not even going to take part in this draft, I'm just trying to help facilitate an ease of organization. |

ventrilo and teamspeak are free. it just costs money if you want a bigger server that can support mroe people.

vent is better than teamspeak and a massive chat room on aim would work but would be more difficult to communicate because u have to type what u want to say.

AIM Pro
Okay, I downloaded the other day but just got around to installing it. THIS is a decent product. It's designed for business so it's a lot more streamlined and not as "hokey" as the regular client. I don't think there's any animated smileys or anything so no "Do it again Daddy". If you use AIM (which apparently you all do), I recommend checking this out.
So if anyone wants to add me, my AIM screen name is SurfergeekRob |
