Nationality Change
Ive been playing poker online now for about 18 months, and have progressed well i reckon, but alot more since joining this forum, which id like to thank all of you for.
Anyways..... Since playing online, my life has changed somewhat. I have been talking to mainly americans for a year and a half, so i have picked up your language, your styles, even taste in music to some extent. Its like living around a different culture for a while, like picking up a tenessee accent if you move down from NYC for 5 years, hope you know what i mean. Anyways, im using alot more american language, like dude, using american spellings, like "color" instead of "colour" and things like that. The main one is a bit weird. The currency over here is Pouns Sterling (£), and the exchange rate is approx £1 to $1.8. Instead of buying things in my won currency, im automatically converting everything into USD($). Back when i had a job i was working out my wages in $, and then buying things in $ from converting the prices instantly in my head. Its very strange, but from playing poker alot, everything in my head is in $$$. So, does anyone else from a country have this kind of thing to any extent? |

Ok that is just weird that you think in $ now, but I can see why if you are playing a ton of poker.
And seriously, don't switch your spellings just because there are too many americans here (). I still spell out colour and other words like that the correct way. |

I switch back and forth between the 'OR' and 'OUR' on those types of words. Part of it is because when I was at work, any emails sent to customers had to have the 'American' spelling of words like that and also because I started programming WAAAAYYY back on the Atari 8bit computer systems. One of the commands in BASIC was SETCOLOR so my hand was sorta forced.
But I do know what you mean about dealing with USD$ amounts. Anyone that does any serious amount of purchasing online pretty much thinks in terms of USD. Fortunately, our dollar is so close to the USD now that exchange is negligible (right now ~10% premium). |

I've been prone in doing this myself. Some of my friends have even laughed, given me a odd look and asked, "What the heck is that?"
Here's the few words I use on them, (some more than others) see if you can guess their meanings. I'll let you know where they come and their correct meanings later on today. ps: Try guessing, preferably without the googlemeister. GL |

Must be nice depositing £100 and getting $180. Sure beats depositing $100cad and getting $90usd. Lol it is nice when I cash out though, its like getting a 10% withdrawal bonus!
