Default Free, friendly, valuable advice

I know I shouldn't let the cat out of the bag, but here goes.....

Just because you are dealt a pocket pair does not entitle you to win the pot.

There, I've said it, it's true. I know many plyers will not believe that, but it is true, sorry.

It happens alot at the table, but most recently I had AA in a limit game and raised in mid positon with one caller, flop is A-T-5 rainbow, certainly not that scarry for me so I bet and get called, turn is a 9, again not real scarry but it does open up the straight possibility on the river, river is a 6 and the straight is out there, but come on whos playing 7-8 that far? I bet and got called the whole way and he mucks as soon as he calls the last bet and I figure he had the other Ace or maybe a set of his own, but NOOOOO, he types into the chatbox "damn, had pocket 4's". POCKET 4's?????? here's a hint, when every card on the board has you beat you may wanna save at least that last bet brother. If your game is chasing a set till the river then so be it, but thats just funny.

Pocket pairs do not entitle you to the pot folks.

I know!!!!!!!!!! Playing 2/4 or under and you see this shit all the time. You'll have somebody overcalling to the river on a board of K-10-5-8-J with 33 when you have AK and the other guy in their has KQ.

Or the other day. I raise the pot with 66 in middle position and get the button for my trouble. the flop comes down with two overs to my pair. The only other guy in with me (BB) checks so I bet hoping to represent a bigger hand than I have at the very least, and hopefully taking it down there.

He calls. Checks the turn, I check behind. He checks the River and now there are 4 overcards to my 66. So I bet out and he calls and I'm like "shit." The hand comes over to me. He didn't show but at the very best he had a smaller pair. Probably an ace high though. I raise pre-flop and you're calling down on the river with Ace high?

I usually just dont' say anything because I don't like to humiliate but I had to say something so I said, "you call and can't beat 6s? Just what do you think I had."

STFU - the typical response.

I love it.

I think that sums it up, they don't ever think what you might have, only what they have reguardless of it's strengh compared to the board.

playing 10/20 at foxwoods last weekend i saw a girl call two bets with three people in the pot already with an underpair. the board was paired and had three diamonds on it(nut flush ended up winning). i have no idea how she called a bet and a raise with an underpair, when she was beat by just about every possible hand out there.
