Default Confessions of a Limit Hater

IM sure you all know that until recently, i havent play limit poker alot. ive tried it but it wasnt for me.

However, since recovering a semi bankroll back, ive been trying it out. A bit on party, and a bit on jetset. Its weird, before i was loose, calling with suited 2 gappers, any Ace, capping with top pair bad kicker, im sure you limit guys know what i mean, basically a fish.

Now all of a sudden im reading the game, i have no idea if its from this forum, or from experience of playing. I can make the correct raiser, 3 bets, caps, folds, i can put people on hands very well, i can work outs pot odds and implied odds very quickly now. I can call down with A high when its good.

Like i said, im coming round to limit poker, after having a bad run of NL recently (-$1k at 2/4) All of a sudden, ive won the $1 back, plus another $600. This is playing 3/6 limit.

Ive played about 8,000 hands now, and my BB/100 is about 8.

I dont know if this is gonna be a permanant change, i just thought this post would make an interesting discussion on the ideas of moving styles, any pros and cons, and any serious things i should know.

I would say in my own opinion, in no biased or big headded way, im alot better at limit than NL currently, i am making the right moves, and the suckouts dont bother me as much, as i KNOW i can keep making the plays and winning it back.

Any thoughts?

8BB/100 is very unsustainable. But I'm sure it's pretty damn fun right now. Good luck

I agree with the previous two posts. You're about due for a serious ass kicking. That's a nice run you've been on, so I hope you've enjoyed it.

Well, "due" might be a little strong, gambler's fallacy yada yada. Maybe regression to the mean would be a better way to put it.

You know what I meant. Of course I don't believe in "due."

Played another few hands today, a few bucks up. still going strong.

I was hoping this post would bring about a more meaningful debate, not just people saying i wont be able to sustain it, as i know i wont, but i can try

There really can't be any debate, we don't have enough of a sample to know which game you're better at. I'll say this though, if you're confident and feel you have a good grasp of the game right now, you might as well stick with Limit for a while.

What exactly were your hopes for a debate? If you are at that winrate at 100K hands, I'll surmise that you are a great player. At 10K, too small of a sample size.

debate topics...

The differnce in stlye needed for playing each
The amount per BB you can win and keep winning on each
How many hand you need to log to have a good idea of how your doing
Umm, why people play one instead of the other.

Everything!!!

Figured we needed a debate

And as i said, im not trying to brag, im just winning, and playing well. Figured id try it for a while

Well, I defintiely didn't get that you wanted to talk about all of that from your initial post. Seemed a lot more like a "Hey everyone - Look at me!" post to me, with you possibly asking for a reality check ("any serious things you should know")...

As for the newly suggested topics, each one is large enough for it's own thread, but quickly:

1. Major differences: not just "style," but fundamentals.
2. NL isn't really measuered on BB/100. For limit, it varies depending on the limits you are playing, but anything above 0/100 is winning, so the higher above that, the better. I think 2 BB/100 is good, and 3+ is very good.
3. A lot. 50k minimum. 100k would be better.
4. Personal preference? I play both, so I can't really speculate about anyone else.

When you refer to bbx 100 do you mean big blinds or the big bet as in 3/6 the 6 ?
