Shoulda been a Pointer Sister
Cause I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's why in a nutshell: Got introduced to the game when Moneymaker played in the WSOP. First played when a buddy started a game last Jan. $5 buy-in, dealer's choice, 75% nlhe. Started playing .10/.20 online to get the hang of limit. Worked up to .50/1.00 just breaking even and losing a little. Read all summer long and learned to play the game through hours of practice and study. Started keeping records in mid July playing 1/2 and straight 2 online and at a B&M. Made .25 an hour for the first 40 hours I played. Lost the month of August. Since then, been building a bankroll. Now, been playing 2/4 at three tables at a timemaking steady income on top of the career I love!!!!!!!!! Life can't get any better. This month, I'll have my first month of $1,000 plus profits ever. Just got my computer installed at home, because I only played 2 hours a day at work before. As I type this, I'm very happy to have found a pure form of competition and skill (I do play NL too) that I can make a substantial amount of profit from and enjoy every minute of it. I hope to make this into a $20,000+ a year hobby! Beats the hell out of bass fishing!!!!!!!!! Now, those same buddies and I play for $30-45 (rebuys) winner takes it all NLHE that is of a high caliber of play. All of that from $5.00 buy- in and nickel dime blinds at Mike's house. |

You went from 10c/25c to 50c/1d... how long did it take for that jump? A long time, I'm assuming?

Good Luck
Good luck man! I understand being excited. It gets better when you get to some real money levels (at least as far as I have come so far). 5/10 starts to mean something dollar wise. You should be able to make more than 20K a year at higher levels once your bankroll gets built up. Good luck!

It wasn't that I could afford to play .50/1, but I was afraid to play too high because I had no idea how to win consistently.

Learn and move on
Personally, I don’t think there is any difference in the various levels at micro limit. 5/10 is not really any different than 50/1. I’ve found the jump to be at the 2/4 level, and I actually find it easier, because you don’t get sucked out on as often since it’s not eight to every flop.
Congrats to pshabi. For those seeking to emulate his success, I’d suggest learning the game at microlimits, than making the jump up to at least 1 / 2 as soon as your bankroll and confidence can handle it. There’s only so much you can learn from microlimit, and playing it too long can even lead to frustration and/or bad habits. |

B]I agree totally. What about the jump from 2/4 to 3/6? I'm thinking about making that jump soon.[/b]
Thanks for the congrats. |

2/4 to 3/6
Good question. Check out the various 5/10 threads that are going on right now. It's all about having the brankroll -- and stomach -- to deal with the variance. I've posted before about how I probably play too tight, which reduces swings, but has a high lost opportunity cost. Even with that in place, I'm just not as comfortable with the idea of losing 15BB at 3/6. I probably should move up, but right now I'm comfortable but not bored at 2/4, so I'll stay where I am until the bankroll grows higher.
