What start day should I request for the WSOP?
I got an email from UB today, requesting a bunch of info so they can get me registered for the WSOP. Here is the interesting part of the email:
What do you guys think? Right now, I'm thinking of ordering it 3, 2, 1, 4. I don't want to start on D, since that's the only day that doesn't get a rest day. A is my second to last choice, as it has TOO MUCH time off, and I'd rather get to see how a day or two play out before I have to play. So that leaves B and C, and I'd prefer C. What do you guys think? Am I missing any important criteria here? |

What an awesome question to have to consider
Your analysis seems spot on to me. I'd imagine one day's rest would be best case scenario.
The only other consideration might seem kind of silly, because in reality of course there is no difference between being the first to bust out on 1A vs. 1D. But I wonder if there isn't some purely psychological aspect of not wanting to literally be one of the first players out (time-wise at least) that might make 1A tighter vs. the illusion that you had already "outlasted" hundreds of players by starting on 1D that might make that day looser. BTW, will you be applying for press credentials this year as well? |

I agree TP - starting in Flight B or C would definitely be best. If I had the choice (and I'm hoping that I do get that choice), I would be ranking them C-B-A-D. The only real benefit to playing in Flight A is that you would have 3 days off to get in some side games. Of course, your hotel isn't covered in your package is it? Were you planning/is it necessary for you to be there from 1A even if you don't play until 1D? By the sounds of it, you were planning on being there since you mention seeing how a couple flights go first. (I know, it's been mentioned before when you're going down, but I'm far too lazy to search )

Planning on it, yes. Can't miss the Media/Celebrity Event! IT's going to be hard to top Shannon Elizabeth (she topped Norm MacDonald), but I wonder who I'll get to sit next to this year???

I'll be there a couple of days ahead of time. The event I mentioned in my previous post is too fun to miss
I am staying at a couple of different places though, with a "move" on Saturday. So that's a bit of a reason to not want to play on Saturday. Seems everyone agrees with my rankings so far, so that's probably what I'm gonna shoot for. |

I would suggest Monday ...
... the nightlife during that crazy month in Vegas, especially the Friday and Saturday night is just too good to pass up. Friday and Saturday off - to party - Sunday to recoop and relax... Monday to play. Then I read there were no breaks on Monday. That'd be a bad play.

ENTER MELIORS FANTASY WORLD
If it was me, I prefer playing on DAY 1B. My schedule would be something as follows. After the long day of poker I would run on the treadmill to get my body tired and then sleep. I'd watch some poker on DAY1C and then party very hard. I would get just silly, as only one can in Vegas (i went to college a few hrs from Vegas, so it would be a nostalgic kind of party with old friends), and on DAY 1D I would lounge in the hotel room enjoying the proper misery of a great hangover, eventually find my way to the pool for a swim, maybe a run on the treadmill, an excellent dinner with just a glass or two of good wine (probably big California Zin-maybe a 1997 Ridge Geyserville or the like), early to bed and be ready to go for DAY 2. OK, BACK TO WORK. |

i would go for 4321, i know you wont get any rest that way, but when you sit down and play even your first hand there will be 1000 or so people already eliminated. I think option 4 is the choice of most the pros as they can endure the strain of a long tourney like this, but if u think u need the rest then your option is best just my 2 cents

All the more reason to avoid Day #4 - I'll get to avoid as many pros as possible.
That doesn't and won't factor into my decision making, but I'm pointing it out anyway. But with 12-14 hours of poker per day, I'll take the day off if I can get it. I plan on playing all week, so I'd like to be as well rested as possible. |

the only thing i can think of that hasnt been metioned is that if u play earlier and make it to day two u have more time to analyze and reflect on your play from the first day. then scope out the possible competiotion taking notes in case u sit with some folks on the following days. i dont know what its like there so im just giving an opinon in the dark.

the only thing is i would say everyone is going for days 2 or 3. I would guess that pros will get first choice, but i dont know. I might go for day 1. Ive never been to vegas, but if i get to the WSOP, ill play day 1, then rail TP and pshabi or whoever is there from this forum, learn some stuff, and maybe see TP trying it on with shannon elizabeth, or if my gods are with me, scarlett johansson may be on my right.....

Sweet!
It's definitely the most fun during the beginning of the week when everyone is still in, plus the "trade show" is going on... By the end, most people are long gone and it's completely impossible to see anything even WITH a press pass (to some extent). As for the pros getting first choice eejit, I highly doubt that. First, what constitutes someone being a pro? Who gets to draw the line? Most importantly, when Pro Player X doesn't register until the day before the tourney starts, he CAN'T have first choice, as I will have made mine months and months earlier. If anything, it's first come, first served... but I imagine they will try to keep it fairly evenly balanced as people register. |

good point. I really wanna qualify now... Whats the best option, after the stars and Fulltilt massive guaranteed seats bonanza? Stars Mtts?? or paradise and its load of weekly tourneys? Anyone? And a runner would be nice... if i ever make it. |
