Default Rut over?

Is the rut still here?

I don’t know but I’ve had my best week ever.

I usually average $60 a week at friends’ cash game. This week I scored $412. My friend Pat would go up $50 - $75 with his aggressive style, while I played tight. Then I would check the flop with a monster and he would bluff all in, trying to win $5 - $10 pot. I pulled this same move 3 times that night. I don’t know if they will call me back after this? lol

I played 8 SNG’s – 1st 3 times 3rd once and rest losses. I didn’t fair as well as I thought I should. So I thought of a new strategy to make money. I decided to make a bonus trip.

I took my $180 bankroll and went to Paradise Poker to claim the 25% first time bonus up to $50. I played at the .1/.25 NL table so they could get their .25c rake and I would accumulate points towards bonus. I played 3 tables at a time and in 1 day I received $40 free bucks to go along with the $35 that I made playing super tight while just watching the points add up. I noticed that there are a lot of very loose tables at PP. Up to 70% in for the flop, even with pf raises. Possibly very lucrative for a tight/semi-aggressive player like myself.

I know this is just chump change to most of you, but it is good at this stage in my poker vocation. (Infancy stage) lol Earning almost 1/3rd of my bankroll in a week is an accomplishment on any scale.

Yet to guess if I’m to be a consistent winner – it’s still too early to tell. But as long as I remain open minded and a student of poker I should grow into a consistent winner over time.

I’m about to move site’s to gather another free sign-up bonus. I’ll keep you posted on how this bonus strategy works for me.

PS. I’m learning a lot by reading your contrasting opinions in this forum.

Good luck to all and my your bankrolls bulge.

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you're off to a great start, and you should be excited. An important part of growing a small roll (ie: an "Egg roll" ) is to bonus whore. Take advantage of ALL the free money you can, and don't be afraid to transfer money from site to site when you've taken advantage of their services.

Get Neteller, if you don't already have it, so that you can move from site to site.
Get Pokertracker, if you don't already have it, to keep accurate records.

When you have TPTK, and someone plays back at you on the flop, and leads into you ALL IN, and you know you're beat: don't call. He hit his set.

Also: Be prepared for swings. The only way you can handle this and continue to play poker is to stay w/in your bankroll. Adhere to bankroll starting requirements, and you should be fine if you play solid tight poker (at these levels).

Last night I "tried out" a higher game, out of my online bankroll, and I lost a buy in. As you could imagine, I was cursing myself for not listening to my own advice.

Such is life. GL.
