Default Strategy question for 1 rebuy tourneys

Has anyone ever played in the Rebuy Tourneys where you only get ONE rebuy, plus the add on? I have messed around with a couple for fun. My initial thought was to do the rebuy right away (they let you do that) and then just do the add-on like you normally would. But, what i noticed is that people were still accumulating a lot of chips like a normal rebuy tourney by playing super-aggressive.

So, i was wondering. Would it be better to not take the rebuy right away. Instead, play with your initial stack like you would in a rebuy - trying to double up a couple of times. Maybe not quite as wreckless - but super-super-aggressive. If you bust - do the same thing again with your rebuy. If you bust again - you are done.

By taking the rebuy right away and basically having to play straighforward poker, it seems to pretty much guarantee you that the best you can hope for is to be the average stack, or a little lower, once it comes time for the add-ons.

I'd lean towards NOT rebuying immediately so you can play more aggressive and try for a big stack... not playing completely reckless (i/e moving in with anything) but playing potentials extremely hard (raise all in on flush draw/straight draw etc) trying to gamble for a double up quickly, and gambling with middle pairs/big cards if u need to race.

Default Maybe I'm missing something

I don't know if I'm missing some critical strategy for re-buys, but why change style in a re-buy as compared to a regular tournament? I play re-buys occasionally and play the same way as I do in regular tournies. If you play more aggressively by pushing in looking for a quick double up and lose...not only do you have to re-buy, but you have just put yourself at a disadvantage in chip stacks.

There is a huge, huge, HUGE difference. If you are going to play the same, don't play in a rebuy tourney. You're at a huge disadvantage. I'm not going to re-explain rebuy strategy (it's been discussed in dozens of different threads), but take my word for it, it's a different strategy. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find some good stuff.

As for bdawg's question, for a tourney where only 1 rebuy and 1 add on are allowed, I think it would depend on the rest of the table.

If no one takes the rebuy right away, I see no reason for you to take it either. But if everyone takes it, I think it would be a good idea... you'd hate to "double up" and only win half as many chips as you should have.

TP's on the right track w/ this answer. If you have a laid back table, then hold off. BUT... if it's a normal rebuy table where at least 7 others are rebuying, then you have to rebuy.

You can't wait it out... Hopefully you're seeing lots of flops, and although most miss, you are bound to hit some. If you're playing hands like I look for: 67s, 55, Axs, etc, when you do hit a flop, you're most likely hitting it hard! If you don't auto-rebuy, then you run the risk of not having 3000 in front of you when you have the chance of doubling up.

If you hold off, the best you're gonna do is turn T1500 to T3000. If you auto-rebuy and get blessed with a monster in the first few orbits (or even levels) you can turn T3000 into T6000.

At least, that's the way I look at it.

Me too, but that's only one side of it. Remember, in order to take the Add On, you need to still be alive when it is offered. So, if you get your 3000 chips in with AA and lose, *poof*, your tourney is over. If you saved yourself that rebuy as a safety net, then no worries.

I think it really depends on what most of your table is doing, but I'd lean towards waiting, I think. You can always take it later (right?), but once you take it, you can't give it back.

I am making a big assumption here, that you can take this particular rebuy whenever you want. If that is untrue, and you still need to be below your starting chip stack, then I think I'd just take it right away, to make sure I got it...

I am pretty sure you can take the rebuy 'whenever' you want - whenever meeting the normal criteria that you have to be at 1500 chips or less, like any other rebuy.

That I would take it right away, and not risk winning a few small pots and not being able to take it later.

I dunno - I don't think a player should sit down at a rebuy tournament and think "safety net."
