PartyPoker Million no longer a WPT event
well, duh...
LIMIT poker...zzzz... we just discussed stubborness and resistance to change in the other thread. this is yet another one of those cases at least to me: why party kept PPM in limit format... |

I wondered the same thing.
I kinda like how there was actually one event that was different from the rest, but it was much less interesting to watch. No HUGE all in bluffs, etc. I'm not at all surprised that the WPT cut it... |

They also ditched the Aruba event as a WPT event too. My hunch is that it's related to the forthcoming WPTOnline poker site that's going to launch. I bet they want to have some kind of monopoly on online poker-based sponsored events.
I agree that the limit format is a yawn-fest, but I'd wager it's based on their upcoming online poker venture. |

IMHO couple things are in play here:
1) the launch of WPTonline (but then again why do they still keep stars' own WPT PCA event, hmm? see below) 2) because UB may be in some hot water now with the pokershare lawsuit (which will also most probly scuttle their planned IPO in london). until/unless thats resolved i dont think they can commit to any significant near-future marketing/promo agreements of the WPT sort 3) because party's PPM is a limit event. yawn. nuff said (interesting side note: at least this year, on the event page on their website, they very clearly state in bold letters no less, that the event is limit. i recall last dec 2004, just as i started playing poker, and was interesting in trying out partypoker specifically for the PPM sats, i almost registered for one, when i read/saw a casual chat among the ppl on that table discussing limit poker...those good ppl saved me that day. i almost wasted my coins on partypoker. ) |
