F-Bomb on ESPN2
I was just watching the East vs. West football game on ESPN2 and the cut to the huddle to listen in. Basnae the QB from Northwestern totally dropped "fucking" in the huddle saying something like "hold your fucking water in" or something like that. They cut sound but it was about 5 seconds too late.
Any one with TiVo recording this game and can verify that I'm not just hearing things?

Wow, i'm espn wasn't too happy about that. I don't see why they might a deal of it, because i doubt there were too many younger viewers watching that game. I understand why espn would of tried to cut the sound but personally i think it's quite funny

Well, there is that whole FCC thing.
I don't think the FCC cares how many young viewers are watching. Rules is rules! |

Would they be able to? I understand that they regulate the airwaves, hence the big $$$ fine for the "wardrobe malfunction" - but CBS is broadcast over regular airwaves. I thought that their powers were very limited when it came to cable channels. Hence the reason The Shield gets away with pretty much anything and everything they want.
Obvously ESPN hadn't rated the game for offensive language so maybe they can do something there. But I remember just a few months back someone (name escapes me at the moment) dropped some serious cussin' on CNN (can't remember if the F-Bomb was part of his tyrade) and stormed off the set. The FCC, when people complained, simply shrugged their shoulders and said "cable TV, sorry 'bout your luck". Something to do with the implied permission by subscribing to the channels. |

I've noticed they are cussing on Comedy Central now too. No f-bombs, but I hear "shit" alot. I've heard cussing many times during televised sporting events. Watch a Cowboys game and watch Parcells. I'm no lip reader, but even I can tell every other word out of his mouth is fuck, asshole, blah blah. Granted, they are smart enough to not audio him but I would think stations that air live sporting events would get a mulligan or two when it comes to violating the FCC's regulations.

Not sure if any of you are NASCAR fans but remember when Jr. said shit (or was it damn)??? NASCAR fined him $$$ and driver points for it and NBC went to a 10 second delay after that. Then last season there was another incident but it was on TNT so nothing happened. (There was apparently no FCC intervention on the Jr. one either)
The only time the FCC will step in is if there is a complaint. Unfortunately, there are enough special interest groups out there determined to shut down anything and everything that they deem wrong and immoral, there is usually a complaint for anything and everything... What I find sad is that these "watchdog groups" have to spend their time watching the programs they supposedly hate in an effort to shut them down. Kinda seems odd to me... |
