Moving up limits...
Ok, I'm still at the micros, but I decided to dabble in a higher limit. I normally play $25 NL and do fairly well and decided to try $50 NL. I can afford this limit, but my problem is the mentality for me moving up. I become very passive and overall intimidated. I've noticed most players play much stronger than at the 25 tables. Does this mean I'm not ready for the move? I feel I am laying down things that I wouldn't normally lay down. Should I keep grinding away at the lower stakes tables? Any advice on getting my head into the higher limits?
Thanks! |

hey
its a mental thing they probobly arnt much stronger its just more money so it seems that way. Set a amount you are willing to lose and if you lose it go back down. You are good enough to beat $50NL spidey I know you are I sat with you before. Moving up levels expecially in NL is tough sometimes, give it a try and if its too much move back down. Sometimes you can make more at $25NL then $50NL if you are more comfortable at that level. |

Are you playing full ring or 6-max?
I found 50NL full to have far fewer fish than 25NL full, but 6-max seemed to stay poor at both levels. |

Full games...
Good point RD. I know I can play this level, but I just have to get my head in the game. |

This is a jump that you'll eventually have to make.
And don't feel bad if you fail the first time. Or the second, or the third. If you ever want to move past where you are, you have to do it. Just understand that moving up in limits has risk. Be properly bankrolled for it and understand that moving back down temporarily is not a failure, but rather a failsafe for your bankroll. Best of luck. |

I had a similar problem in moving from 3/6 to 5/10 limit. It took me 3 times to get here and stay here (hopefully ). Do what Brian said, and set a loss limit though. You won't get there , but do it anyway.
Then you have to just buck up and play your game. I'm not going to retype RD's comments, but if you can't play your game, move down. But, I suggest you give it another shot. Don't move down yet.

I just recently made the same jump about a couple months ago. I was somewhat nervous, but not as bad as you say you are, but I found that moving back down to $25 once in a while helped me make the jump. You know, if you are completely card dead or take a couple rough beats, it may help to go back to where you are 100% confortable. Or maybe it's one of those days where you feel you aren't concentrating as much as you could, that would be a good time to play the lower limit. I played both for a couple weeks, then moved to $50 exclusively.
The players there are better (At PS anyway), but it's not like they're a bunch of Johnny Chans. I still see a lot of dumb calls especially on draws, but I think the selective aggression is a lot better overall then the $25 level. I use the trap sometimes now, whereas I almost never did in $25 where the play is much more passive. |
