The whole night sh*t like that happened. Guys would chase flushes and str8s w/o having the odds to do so and hit them constantly... it was bad beat after bad beat. My roll was up to $1500 just a few weeks ago, now it's around $700. I can't take much more of this. I may just cash out and give it up.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate luck recently, although becoming result orienented is never a good thing. I always try to think (try being the key word) that I am putting in an investment that will pay off (in this case) 73% of the time.

Good attitude...

My advice... take some time off (make sure you're not playing on tilt), do some reading, and then come back fresh. Move down in limits and don't sit with more than 5% of your roll (I suppose a $50 buy in table would be ok, if you couldn't stand to play for less). Be patient and play your game.

Oh, and wearing your new TP.com hat won't hurt either. You just wait and see.

I don't see how you should be losing 40% of your roll tonight unless you're playing at limits higher than your roll supports, tilt, or both.

If you drop a few hands like that....it should hurt a little bit...but it should never get to the point of 40% of your bankroll.

Hmmmm, I don't know about this Wind.

I dropped half of a 5k bankrolll playing 5/10 in a couple days of play. Those couple days could easily have been one bigger session. It didn't take me a ton of hands to do it. I don't play NL, but if you got on a really sick streak I could realistically see a roll disappearing like that.

Let's hear RD's explanation.

I didn't do as well as I wanted on UB, even with a good rakeback deal. I moved my money after two months.

Well, this all happened at the $100 NL tables at UB. I ran into a guy that seemed to know my hole cards and also knew what was coming. He was super aggressive, would limp and then call almost any PFR and would constantly coming over the top of any CB I made. This bled me for a while and I decided to try to mix things up and trap him and to at least make a stand on a few hands. Well, the times I decided to make a stand he would hit on the turn or river to beat me. One example was when he called a 4xBB raise when I held AK, the flop comes K95 rainbow, I make a pot size bet, he comes over the top and I push, he calls and flips over 52o (wtf?) and of course a 2 comes on the turn. Another time he's on a flush draw and I've got him beat and make pot size bets on the flop and turn and he hits the flush on the river and takes another big chunk from me. Twice I get pocket AAs and he folds in front of me (he probably folded preflop about 10% of the time). The guy rarely had to go to the showdown because he would make huge bets on the turn or river and rarely get called. When he did get called he would hit some miracle two pair or gut-shot. This is normally the kind of player I love to play against because he's eventually going to give it all back playing the crap he played. Well, not that night, I stuck around too long to try to get it back and he kept sucking out on me or would make huge bets that I just couldn't call. He probably took close to $300 from me. This knocked my bankroll on UB down to about $90 and I left and went to another table, then the QQ hand above happened and with only $20 I again got all my $ in with the best hand after the flop only to lose to a 5-outer on the river. I really don't think any of this was caused by tilt (now that I've had time to think back on it, most of the decisions I made were correct it was just a string of bad luck).

As far as playing above my bankroll, I'm comfortable at the $100 NL tables. My online bankroll might be too small for that, but money is not really an issue for me. I enjoy (well, I think I enjoy it) the game and the cerebral challenge it presents... I'm not really in this as a means for a 2nd income.

I've had a few days to think things over and basically came to the same conclusion that's given in TP's advice above... take some time off, read some books, come back fresh and play at a low limit for a while. I'm also going to move most of my bankroll to a site where I've had a lot of success.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's always welcomed!

Judging from your post, you didn't lose 40% of your roll then. You may have lost 40% of what you had online, but if you can and will redeposit, then your roll is much bigger.

Good luck, RD.

True, I sould have qualified that statement. But, the thought of redepositing makes my skin crawl.

God damnit, RD, you need an inspirational speaker or something.

It's time to Shake it off, and step up:

Shake It Off And Step Up
By: Author Unknown

A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule 'braying' - or - whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened...and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back...a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back...HE SHOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP! This he did, blow after blow.

"Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or distressing the situation seemed the old mule fought "panic" and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!

You're right! It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, STEPPED TRIUMPHANTLY OVER THE WALL OF THAT WELL! What seemed like it would bury him, actually blessed him...all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

THAT'S LIFE! If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and refuse to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity...THE ADVERSITIES THAT COME ALONG TO BURY US USUALLY HAVE WITHIN THEM THE POTENTIAL TO BENEFIT AND BLESS US! Remember that FORGIVENESS--FAITH--PRAYER-- PRAISE and HOPE...all are excellent ways to "SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP" out of the wells in which we find ourselves!

NOW GET BACK TO THE TABLES AND DON'T MAKE ME DO THIS AGAIN!
