Is there a particular reason you did not bet until the river?
You gave him a free chance to chase for his str8 flush. |

It's called a slow play, maybe you've heard of it? Normally it pays off to let someone chase a straight flush or possibly a 4th 10 if you can beat anything other than that. Its a very effective way to make money, however when someone catches a 1 outer, there normally is not anything you can do about that. Do you realize how funny your question sounds?, why did i let him chase a straight flush. So you would have known he had a straight flush draw and then would have bet him out of it?

in theory betting along the way will make you more money. He will pay to chase and when he doesnt hit, you have made a little doe. However, if you slow play till the river, if he didnt hit he is going to fold and you wont make anything. Of course, there is the possibility he will stab and you can make money that way too. Nevertheless, slow playing isnt the only way to make money...
But being straightflushed does suck.

I don't think this is played badly, although there are other ways of playing it. Remember you want them to catch a flush and think its good (obviously not the 1 out they have for a straight flush)
On the flop, you don't know where you're at, on the turn its a bit of deception...

Yes slow playing is one method of playing, but
how much do you think he would have paid you off at the end? Especially with a T or a K giving a full house? Plus the possibility of a flush did not come til the turn, so you are saying you were slow playing your two pair ? You have to bet at the flop to see where you are at. To see if you are up against trip tens. If he just calls, then yes check the turn and get into it on the river. Not to mention, this is not a bad beat by the definition that has been posted here many times. He was ahead when all the money went in. Yes I agree it really sucks, but it could have been avoided. |

You're not slowingplaying your two pair... you are checking because you do know if your hand is good, thus you dont want to invest more money in the pot than you need to... if you have a good shot of showing down the best cards but dont know where u r, why make the pot any bigger than it has to be? Are youy going to bet the two pair and then be in check fold mode if you receive a call? If so , Im gunna smooth call with anything all day and then rep the trips once you show weakness and steal your pot. If you plan on calling more bets, then the pot is already getting uneccessarily large
A better question to ask rather than how much would he have paid u off at the end is 'what could he possibly call you with on a K K 10 10 board if you bet? Unless he has the case king, or is deciding to not except his potential outdraw of his slowplayed 10, nothing.
