Defending your BB
I have been playing the Stars MTT's a lot lately, and I am really having my big blind pushed around. I am trying to play tight and not get myself into any tough decisions with mediocre hands. It seems like my big blind is getting raised every round. I remember shabi saying something about how he is going to defend his BB everytime in another thread, I think it was a cash game though, not a tournament. I mean when you look down at something like J7suited and there is a 4x the BB raise and your the BB, should you call that or just give it up and wait for a better spot? I mean the best you can really hope for (realistically) is top pair with a weak kicker, and maybe two pair if your lucky.
Just wondering other peoples opinions on this.

Losing a BB is no big deal - esp. in a tournament -
don't look at is as u losing ur money - once ur the BB - the $ is in the pot and is up for grabs from anyone who enters the hand. - Just because u have a small portion of it in there doesn't mean you have to play the hand - use pot odds and decide which play is best. and don't go overboard defending ur blinds.

You've left out some very important pieces of imformation. WHO raised to 4x BB? Was it the button or the cutoff, after it was folded around to them? Was it a tight player in Early or middle position? How significant are the blinds in relation to your stack size at this point in the tourney?
The comment pshabi was regarding a 6 max limit game and in regards to a steal attempt - not just some standard raise in a NL tourney. HUGE difference here. Just fold. |

If someone is consistently blind stealing my BB from the button lets say EVERY rotation it's folded to him, as long as I have a chip stack where if I make a move and I get caught I can deal with it, I'll start reraising 1 out of every 3 times with any two cards, and always reraise with any hand I'd normally open for.
Late in a tourny I am more content to let them steal and then steal my self though... Of course all of this is dependant on a lot of the Qs TP asked above

Defend BB?
Unless its a premium hand I would just fold. If I had two suited as in your example; one needs to be an ace and I might take a stab at it if I'm in a favorable position. Just be patient againest aggressive players and nail him with good cards and position. Someone at the table will grow tired of the bully and fight back with marginal or poor hands; then you'll see the cards he's playing in the showdown. Patience. I hope this is sound advice. Good luck!
