Default Are most poker players wankers?

Is it just me or are most poker players utter wankers? (excluding your home game with your buddies)

In particular, I have found a lot of players get incredibly pissed off if you *gasp* win and leave, even if you tell the table what time you're staying until. Players also often act like total tools towards new players. For example whenever a new player might says "raise" instead of "bet", half the table always seems to make mean-spirited remarks (stuff like "Who are you raising? It's a bet! God!").

I'm interested to know if this is a worldwide phenomenon.

But i have to admit im one of the ones saying its a bet not a raise. Only because I only play in one home game. The guys have been playing in it for over a year and one guy always says Raise.

The guys who are jumping down everyone's throats are losers, in the game and in life....and since the majority of poker players are losers over the longrun, you are definately gonna find a lot of people like that. Shrug it off and smile as you drag another pot.

And in a casino, you can get up and leave whenever you damn well please, politeness be damned. It's poker, and the goal is to win as much money as possible...not make sure everyone is happy before you call it a night. It is bad form in a home game with friends though to, "take the money and run"

Precisely why I see nothing wrong with ratholing. My money, not such and suches that I won it from, so take it easy pal and thanks for padding the wallet.

Poker is a grumpy game, in that since most are losers, and people generally don't like losing money unless they play online , they will act rudely and arrogantly and pissed off in general.

I don;t think there is anything wrong with ratholing, I just dont agree with it strategically. We could have this discussion ad nausem though.

i think that it is pretty much a well proven fact at this point that most players are filled with traits that arent exactly socially desireable. even with the amount of sanitizng that we see for wpt or wsop events, there is a lot that they let through that shows the seedy underside of these players and their lives.

i think that this probably trickles down to the lower levels as well, and i am never surprised when there is some complete asshole at my table. i guess it is just a hazard of the game.

My very first experience at a B&M cardroom was at the Taj in Atlantic City and I had played on-line for a while but still posted on various sites asking about things I should and should not do when playing in a live room and I really thought I was ready, was determined to act in turn, not reach for the pot I had won, etc... and sure enough when I got my seat the floor pointed me in the general direction and got called away and of course I sat in the wrong seat, well I tried to sit in it anyway, my ass wasn't even in the seat before there was an uproar from at least 3 people at the table, you would have thought I shut down the game. Would it be so bad to let the dealer tell me I was in the wrong seat?

That brings up another issue, would it be so bad to let the dealers run the game? I know they make mistakes and you should point it out when they do, but give them the chance, sheesh.

There are some players that are just wankers. Especially at the higher limits and just some posers in the lower limits trying to be the table leader telling people left and right what to do. At our homes games, were usually cool. Except all in means all in.
