Cant Win in Tournaments...
I cant seem to get past the bubble.. I can get close to the money like 5-10 spots but i always seem to run low at that point. How can i get my stack bigger leading up to this point and be able to take it home?
Thanks.

I think we need some more information...In general I would just say tighten up, don't take risks, don't play big pots, and never risk all your chips. It may mean you have to make a tough lay down that you normally wouldn't make, but it will keep you alive that much longer. Of course with this strategy you might end up being able to outlast the blinds and catch the tail end of the money, but you may be too shortstacked to make it much farther than that.

Ussaly it depends. It is always a tournament not a sit n go. I play in the 900 , 4000, and 6000 people tournaments. Ussaly in the 900 people tournaments i have 10k chips when the blinds are 500/1000 and 600/1200. Thats all i remember from the blinds. If there is any more info you need just ask. ( I ussaly just play the 900 people ones)

If you are down to 10k chips with 500/1000 blinds then you are at about down to 10 big blinds. You are either going to have to push and hope to double up, or stay conservative and hope you can make the money before you blind out.

My advice is actually the opposite. During the early part of the tourney, this is a good strategy, but towards the middle, when the blinds are becoming significant, that's when you want to turn up the aggression and start building your stack. That may help position you for a better run at the money, or more importantly, a run at going deep... Once you get down to 10 BB, you are already in trouble... so I think you need to address the problem (and likely take some ricks) before you get to this point.

But how would you do that? What hands would you raise alot on? And how much would you want to raise? What if you miss the flop and you already bet alot, continue betting?

Surely you realize it is impossible to answer these question, because they are too general. If I was to take a stab at answering these for even 10% of the scenarios I can think of, I'd be rewriting a lot of already well written poker books.
Rather than make myself look silly, I will defer these questions to Harrington on Hold'Em, Volume 1. |
