Cautionary Tale: How to Lose $40 in One Hand
I was playing on a $50 buy-in NL table ($.25-$.50 blinds) on Pokerroom last night and increased my $50 buy-in to about $65 when "She who must be obeyed" (the wife) comes in and says she wants to play a hand with no influence from me.
Since she must be obeyed, I agreed and she sits down to QJ in the cut-off position. I think, that's a pretty good hand for her to try out. No one raises until it gets back to my wife and she raises to $2. Wow - kind of aggressive but everyone folds except 2 other players who call. Flop comes KKQ. Oh crap! 1st player bets $5, second player calls and wife raises to $10. NO! Both players call. Turn comes 10. 1st player checks, 2nd player goes all in (about $10) and wife calls. NO!! 1st player then goes all in for about $18 more and wife again calls. NO!!! River is a blank and 1st player shows KQ for a full house, 2nd player shows AJ for a straight and my wife has 2 pair. Wife asks what happened, I explain it to her and then she asks how much "I" lost. I tell her about $40 and she says sorry and goes to bed! WHY ME and why couldn't she have been dealt 72? Lost another $20 that night trying to recoup the $40 and now I'm down $60 on Pokerroom trying to clear a bonus of $112. Only a few nights left to clear the bonus - hopefully I can keep the wife off until then. LOL. |

LMFAO! Serves you right for trusting a woman with your hands . Seriously though, my gf tred to do that in a sit-n-go once, and she went from chip leader to out of the money, when there were only 4 players left . She knows better than to ask now so hopefully your wife is the same.

Nice story.
Everytime my girlfriend watches me play poker I constantly get, "Why aren't you playing that?" It's always a shitty hand, and she doesn't understand that if you play shitty cards, you will lose money quickly.

Wife's response after "I" lost the $40 - "I thought they were bluffing."

My wife is the same way, "you'll never win if you keep folding AJ suited". Keep in mind there was a UTG all-in and a caller.

Yeah - There were 2 all-ins that had both had her hand beat which I knew but she thought they were both bluffing! LOL

Women are just generally looser than guys in general, no pun intended.
My girlfriend will do the same thing. I can't stand it when she overplays a pair when overcards hit the board .

Too funny.
Last Saturday at my NL $30 buy-in ring game, we only had 6 players. The wife is constantly checking my cards before I get them, and the people I'm playing with are going to pick up on her tells much easier than mine. So I gave her $20 to sit down with just so I could play my own hands. She lost her $20 - mostly to me - in about 15 minutes. Then she went to bed. I think investing the $20 in her to stop standing behind me and nudging me every time I had a good hand was more than worth it. |

Another thing my wife is good for is constantly saying "they're bluffing" well that may very well be true, but I still can't call with 2 unders!

Agreed - I probably should have jsut paid her $40 to leave me alone. Afterwards, she asked if I wanted her to give me the $40. I said sure as soon as you can figure out how to put it back into my account at Pokerroom. LOL

Anyone ever have wife/gf put the mush/jinx on you? Last year I was playing in a WSOP freeroll (I think pokerroom??) anyway, there were 5000 entrants so it took awhile. I told the wife, leave me alone, dont come in room, dont ask me how I'm doing etc etc etc. Things started great, busted a bunch of weak player, doubled thru a few times. then the cards went sour, i mean nothing. but I was a rock, fold fold fold. still doing well. down to 51 players, on button AKo. just as they are dealt, yep, here comes the wife. "hows it going honey" etc. Of course a raise in front of me, but someone who has me covered but i think i have a good read on. i reraise allin, get a call with ?? cant remember exactly, but it wastnt even a pp. Of course I get busted by runner runner. finish in 51st. I could have killed her. really. Of course i get ridiculed for even suggesting that she had anything to do with it. Couldnt leave me alone for like 5 hours in arow??????? unreal!!
any other mushes out there? ps. anyone remember which room ran those freerolls last year. I have new cpu and cant remember which rooms i had downloaded. and will any have real freerolls this year. I'll post new thread on this some other time maybe |

yeah, sometimes i feel my lady friend can be a mush. It's happened a few times...she'll call as i have AA in my hand before it's my turn to act, someone moves all in before me with QQ....and they end up hitting a Q..
It's uncanny actually....she got me scratch tickets as a stocking stuffer...a bunch...and not one would hit....then i go to the store later that day, happen to buy one just to test the jinx, and win Kind of a running joke to us actually

Thank God my wife doesn't like gambling. She'd be just the type of person to try to do that too. When we were in Vegas last month for my wedding, a buddy and I were playing Roulette, and both of us were just playing red/black. After about two hours we were both up about $800 when she walked in to ask if I was losing. I didn't win once after that. As soon as I got back to my original $200 buy-in I went and hunted her down to tell her what happened. So she knows she's bad luck for me now and won't ask how I'm doing anymore.
