Default Why did you join *this* forum?

i'll start with myself...

i've been playing poker for almost a year and have sampled memberships in a bunch of forums since. to me, it's kind of like being a member of, say, yahoo sports or espn.com, if you're sports fan. in other words, you need a platform of a kind where you get news/info on the game/sport/hobby you're interested in or actively participating in yourself...

so, this is what i am/have been looking for in a forum:

1) active/hands-on owner/ops/mods knowledgeable in poker; courteous to others, but in the same token willing to immediately ban any obvious troublemakers (and we all know who they are)...ive alas been to forums where owners have openly declared themselves to be 'fish' and made it a point to be proud of...lol...okay...or other places yet where absentee owners appointed rather unsavory characters to run the show day-to-day resulting in expected childish behavior...or yet others where owner/mods were soft to offenders to the point where total mayhem ensued, with chaos on the boards and pvt events hijacked by pass leakers, etc etc. being polite is one thing; being a mushy pushover who's taken advantage of to everyone's detriment is something quite different.

2) owner/mods/ops actively promoting healthy exchange of info and ideas; frowning on, what is to me at least, unethical behavior such as freeroll pass swapping (even if from other forums), ad hominem attacks, and other such nonsense. mind u, im not in the least bit a moralist nor preaching to others what to do. i just like what i like and, in this case, here it is...

3) forum topics/subforums organized in a logical hierarchy covering all/most general topics

4) it doesn't hurt if the underlying platform/forum software is pleasing to the eye with useful/logical user features (vbulletin happens to be my favorite)

5) pvt events/league on pokerstars. thats right, im honest about it, so sue me. to me, stars is like the yankees of (online) poker (oh, and yankee-haters, please be quiet, noone cares). its the best, most successful poker site with some of the best players, online or off-, found anywhere. and if a forum needs to be taken seriously, IMHO it must have something regular/recurring there. it also shows me that the owners/mods/ops/regular forum members are definitely good, serious poker players/enthusiasts not afraid to play against some of the best there is.

6) last but not least...QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. take it anyway you want.

ok, thats it from me...what about the rest of you guys?

I posted about this in another thread but I will post it here...

I wont lie, when I saw TP advertise this site last October on RGP offering free money to post here, I was all over that but as I started posting, I enjoyed myself and wanted to be a positive part of the forum. Alot of people took TPs money and ran with it but alot of good posters like AEQ, Geoff, Pshabi, Chip to name a few have stayed and made this a great site.

I think people would enjoy themselves if they gave the forum a real shot and werent just trying for the free money.

I have been playin poker off and on for about 3 years now. Just recently starting getting into the online stuff. Came across this site because of the poker star tourney's. I am on the pokerflea league, actually saw it attending one of thier tourney's. Compared to some of the other sites around this one is pretty sweet. Haven't really had a chance to talk to many people but, by reading some of the conversations seems like a place I want to post!

I dont know how i fumbled across this forum but it had nothing to do with free money. I was just really getting into poker at the time and would read all u regular guys posts all the time and realized how much more advanced veryone was in poker than me. After reading the post on a very regular basis for 3 months I finally started playing well online and decided to start posting to get better at poker - and this site has honestly helped a ton.

I joined the forum, not entirely because of the freeroll but that had a part in it, like iove said elsewhere i have veiwed posts here for a while and sat in the dark as a fake money player, and i ahve always liked the people and the setup in this forum, all in all i would have to say that this forum is hands down the best of any poker forum i have seen out there to date....

I joined because of the great poker content but as of late im having my doubts. I never took TP up on his posting for dollars offer, I felt the content was worth alot more then $50 to me. I'am one of the dinosaurs here along with Lou, pshabi and others and I think this forum is run really well. Praying once this freeroll is done with the forum will get back to normal.

I hope to get some of you to help keep me from blowing my real money away with inexperienced poker. I have played play chips for a long time and have developed an interest in actually learning some of the in's and out's of playing real money. I hope you all that are veterans of this game won't mind giving me some tips. Thanks

I know I keep saying this, but I had NO IDEA this would happen. Bad idea by TP! opefully in a few days, things will get backto normal.

I've tried a number of things to get this place to grow in the past, with limited success. This certainly got us a ton of new posters, but the quality of posts has dropped significantly. This place has gotten ugly, and I'm sorry for that.

To those of you regulars who are able to find this post... bear with me. I'll fix this.

I'm not going to lie I joined this forums cause of the freeroll. I do like most of the discussions going on and that's probably why i'll stay here even if I dont make the post requirements. I also joined this forum because I like to discuss poker and I though this would be the perfect place to share my opinions and hopefully learn some new stuff to help my game.

I wasnt saying it was bad idea at all, good idea with a bad outcome. You have done fine job in last 2 days in fixing it and the forum is starting to get back to normal.

I joined because after 13 years of marriage I get no love at home... with Lou and Slim Shabi around there's lots of love and warmth here. So, to sum up, I joined to feel the love.

Have a nice day.
