Default PokerRoom Magazine

Anyone else get this via snail mail? It's a pretty good idea to send a hard copy of the magazine IMO. It actually got me to read most of it, something I certainly wouldn't have done were it an e-mail.

Looks good but the stories are pretty basic and sometimes just wrong. Others are just long articles that just serve to promote their site.

They also included this list of "the top ten poker legends"
1. Stu Ungar
2. Benny Binion
3. Johnny Moss
4. Phil Hellmuth
5. Amirillo Slim
6. Puggy Pearson
7. Greg Raymer
8. Mike Matusow
9. Devilfish
10. Phil Gordon

Notice any names missing?

Missing? Um, how about names that have no business being on that list either.

That's really something. I bet Raymer is pretty flattered to be on the list the Chan and Bruson can't even make.

Well, keep in mind this is the top 'legends' list, not just top players. After all, would you put Binion on a top 10 players list? Personally though, given the nature of this list I would've put Harrington on there, winning a Main Event and then FTing the 2 that really put it in the limelight is really an achievement.

My list would go something like this:

1. Doyle
2. Slim
3. Binion
4. Ungar
5. Moss
6. Pearson
7. Hellmuth
8. Harrington
9. Annie Duke <- Gotta give a little love to the ladies, plus she totally punked Hellmuth
10. Chan/Men The Master/Ivey

Honorable Mention to Raymer. Beat a big field, then went deep against a HUGE field, and with nothing but class.

Note: Edited to avoid postwhoring charges.

Default I got it

While very slick, I can’t imagine this is going to be cost effective for them. While I’m happy to read their publication, it’s not going to get me to deposit. Since I enjoy following the industry side as well as playing, the piece I enjoyed most was the history of the site/founders. It sounds like their life ambition was to do anything but have a real job – before starting the site, they were professional card counters.

I guess it all depends on how they define legend. I hope it is some weird definition that I haven't heard of cause a few of those aren't legends in anyone's mind but their own.

Exactly, I based mine on 'does ANYBODY outside of the pro poker circles know who this is', which I think is a fair definition of legend.

From what I've heard if you contact Bluff they will send you a free issue, I'm sure some of the smaller publications would as well.

Hell, Hachem is more of a legend than Phil Gordon. What the hell are they talking about. How could a company that takes themselves seriously put that list in print.

I don't know if they mean legends of the poker world or poker players. If it's players the list is this: (no particular order)

1) Doyle Brunson
2) Johnny Moss
3) Johnny Chan
4) Stu Ungar
5) Amarillo Slim
6) Chip Reese
7) Puggy Pearson
8) Phil Hellmuth
9) T.J. Cloutier
10) Dan Harrington

Plenty of interchangable names though. Lederer comes to mind. Ivey, Negreanu, etc.. they are too young to be "legends".

Now this is a list I can get on board with. And yes, Ivey and Negreanu can and will be be included in that list... Hard to bump any of those guys for them though if you can only have 10.
