Default UB "Alternate" policy

From email:

In a non-rebuy tournament, Alternates can register up until the beginning of the first blind level and will be allowed to be seated up until the end of the second blind level.

For players waiting to get into a rebuy event, Alternates can register up until the end of the rebuy period and can be seated up until the end of the Add On period.

This is something they are marketing as a service to players. If you are in a NON-REBUY tourney, I would not want anyone to be able to replace someone who is knocked out. That hurts the bottom line, right?

In a rebuy, it hurts the player coming in late more than the others who have had more time to accumulate chips.

Thoughts?

I agree with you on the rebuy part... if you are seated when the rebuy period is almost over, you are at a big disadvantage.

Then again the alternatives might like to not rebuy multiple times so they can just buyin, rebuy then addon at break and be fine with that.

in a nonrebuy tourney, I would have no problem with a alternative comes and sits at my table. Its more money for me when I win the tourney

Was this not discussed here before?
I still say that anyone that plays in a rebuy and does not wish to (or does not have the funds to) rebuy, they have no business playing...
They are putting themselves at far to great a disadvantage.
Although, looking from the other perspective, It might be nice to have a few weak tight shorty stacks sitting around you after the rebuy.

(That's one quality post).

How does it hurt the bottom line? All it does is increase the prizepool... If it's a guaranteed tourney with an overlay, that's one thing - bit for a normal tourney, I have no problems with alternates who want to start late. It's their disadvantage (less to accumulate chips), and their disadvantage = my advantage.
