Default Pacific Poker??

A few months ago I took the money I made from my free $20 at Pacific Poker and cashed out. I am about to cash out of a Prima skin, and planned to deposit into Pacific to try to beat all the fish. Other forums have tons of posts about Pacific lately. They all say, "Pacific is the devil" etc. etc. Whats the real deal?? Has the software had it?? Is it still safe, worth it etc. I am scared to death of Party (hear all the crazy stories). Please give me the real 411.

Default Don't be scared of Party!

I can't speak to Pacific, but I can say there is certainly no reason to be scared of Party. Sure, you'll get sucked out on now and then, but it is definitely beatable. Why not sign up under TP's offer, and give it a try?

At Pacific, the players do suck royal nut, but the software does too. Way too slow, IMO. As well, always gives me connection problems, something I don't get with other sites. I agree with the previous poster, go to Party, more fish and quicker hands.

I'd say just go to Party too. The amount of people is crazy and a lot of them don't know what they're doing. Plus for every time you get sucked out, you'll probably win 5-6 times against loose callers whose cards don't hit. Just try to avoid any really lucky call stations.

It is slow on pacific, but it's not a big deal if you're playing a couple party hands at the same time.

There's a good amount of weak players and they've always been professional with their support.

I've made a good amount of money there playing 2/4. had a 15 BB/hour morning today. And that's not all that rare.

thanks for the input. I have already played at both Pacific and Party (although just play money at Party). I dont really mind the bad software and somewhat slowness of Pacific, I just want to know if there has been some significant recent downturn at Pacific. the last week alot of posters on RGP have said Pacific has gone bad??
I have about $400 to play with. Would it make sense to try to play at both sites, simply deposit $200 into both. Or should I pick one and go at it full bore. I am not at the point where I feel too comfortable playing multiple tables, another reason Pacific suits me. What are your opinions??
thanks again, keep the advise coming!!

There actually is a correct answer to your question: None of the above.

What you should do is take the full $400 and deposit it at a NEW site, and get yourself a bonus. Take your pick, but I would recommend you try . I think you will like the site, and they are currently offering a 40% deposit bonus, which would be $160 for you. Gotta love that.

More sites you might want to check out:

Sure, suckouts are annoying, but you can't be serious in saying you don't like playing with bad players - They are the ones who pay you in the long run. If you only play with people who are better than you, you'll lose.

It's just math.

I think the deal with Pacific is that the software is just plain old and outdated...I mean look at how long its been around...

I tend to agree with TP, Pokerroom is a very nice site, nice interface, pretty good customer support.

Also, SnGs dont have the shitty 800 or 1000 starting chips, they start at 1500, which is a big plus.

well obviously i don't mind playing with crappier players (sometimes i say i hate it because i get so frustrated), but if i play with better players a lot my skills will increase..and that's really what i'm looking for.

i believe that there was a quote in "the biggest game in town" about eric drache, that essentially went:

"drache is generally thought of as the seventh best player in the world. his only problem is that he will only play with the six who are better than him."

game selection is key, and yes suckouts are annoying, but playing against the fish is spectacular.

Default Pacific is slowwww

I'm playing the java no download version of Pacific only cause I can't log onto any other of the sites through the university firewall that i'm behind.. very slow play and I've had some connection problems, but the tourneys that I've played so far don't seem that tough to beat.

TP, do you have a list on the site that ranks the sites/rooms by # of fish, or beatability?? If not where would you rate poker room compared to Pacific (or others)?
Keep up the good work. This forum blows RGP away.

Having played at both Pacific and Party, I tend to agree that the Pacific software is a bit antiquated. I don't particularly like the look of their deck and quite often it's difficult to tell the difference between clubs and spades right away.

I understand that there are different deck bitmaps you can replace the default one with, but that is still not ideal.

I've played at Pokerstars too and would have to say that Party's interface is the easiest on my eyes.

I have played on Pacific and did not like it - it only had limit ring games and the software was truly horrible. Party has more variety but be prepared for the idiots who will go to the river with any hand possible.

I do like playing in Pacific's fast 5 and 6 headed tourneys.. good for practising short handed play, and some are pretty cheap too, starting at 2.50 +.25.

Too bad party's lowest is 5+1 w/a 20% entry fee

I think they're pretty good with bonus. You can make a deposit and they will give you the deposit bonus immediiately. So what I do, is I withdraw my money after depositing to neteller (takes about 1-2 weeks, thats one of their problems) and I play with the bonus money until I clear it or lose it all!
