Live Game recap: TP Hat; magic missing
So last night I wore the TP.com hat for the first time when goin to play a live game. Sat down in a 6 player 1/2 NL Cash Game... had played with each of the players at the table before, but didnt have any strong reads.
I felt good because 1) I walk out ahead 4/5 times in this room and 2) the TP.com hat seemed to bring luck to everyone wearin it. Well last night the magic wasn't there for me...Had only my 2nd losing session in the past 9, ended up down $350. Lost my first 200 fairly quick, flopped top pair and a straight draw, it was bet into me I raised and it was called. Bet the turn and that was called, river went check check, he had me outkicked.... another time I called two bets chasin a straight flush draw which missed....... and then I lost on a small stacks all in raise when I had top pair and he had an up and down straight draw which hit....the time before with TPTK I raised another short stack flop bet to put him all in, with KJ on a rainbow 2 9 J board... which he calls with AQo (no pair.... of course he hits a queen on the turn.) A bit steaming and Down about 350 at this point, I open for 9 with QcJc, a player on the button reraises me $25 more, the player to his right (SB) calls (the biggest donkey at the table by far, I wasnt worried about this call, he'd make it with any suited Ace, two big cards, a low pair etc)... I sensed a bit of weakness on the buttons reraise...and I figured I had the odds to call the raise, even still, I knew Id probably need two or better to continue. Flop comes Ac4c7c MONSTER. Donkey leads out 25, I raise to 75 (maybe a bad move... I think the original raiser may of made a play at this pot if I had smooth called) the original raiser folded and the donkey put me all in with A 10 and no club. When the 4 paired on the turn, I just shook my head.... fortunate for me I dodged another suck out on the river though....huge double up, got me nearly back to even. The hand afterwards which killed me, I was up against a pair of 10s, I flopped two baby pair on the flop, and the top card paired on the turn. Since I check raised on the flop I made a play on the turn trying to take it down...didnt work. The river was a duece. I made another aggressive attempt at the pot (something I should of just gotten away from) and after careful consideration my opponent moved in for the rest of my stack. I was getting close to 5 to 1 on my call, but I knew he had to see I was committed and there was no way he could make this move without a big pair or the 9 (the TP which paired), so I made a laydown, which left me crippled. On the 2nd to last hand of the night I won 40 bucks with AA, which helped me out a little. On the last hand I am dealt them AGAIN (only two times that night I had em). I make a standard open and 4 players call me (last hand of the night I guess...geez) The flop comes a rainbow J 5 2. I figure this has to be good. After the both blinds check I fire out, the next player raises me, the player after him calls this raise (he was the donkey though, so this call didnt effect me) then the Blind moves in.....Im like uuuuuuuuhhhh WTF? This flop is perfect for aces nod raws nothing....I shake my head and lay the hand down. Donkey lays down J8 (lol) original raiser had 34 and reraiser had 55. Crazy players.... Anyway I hope the TP hat has better results next time |

Nice fold on that last hand.... you have to figure someone has a set.
Also - I agree that you should have smooth called with your flopped flush. As for the TP hat, give it a chance... I've seen GREAT things happen for people wearing these hats, myself included. |

Ive been doing good at this spot. It's about 9 tables, the two NL games they have is a 1/2 NL and a 5/5 NL. I've been wanting to give the 5/5 a shot (I've played it at foxwoods before, and I've played 3/6 online) but never have. The max buy in is 1G for this (a bit high for that limit) and the standard raises are 30-45 bucks on average....I'd probably walk away good, but its a bit out of my comfort zone.
Ive been to this spot 9 times, and Ive walked away up 7 out of 9 times...so Im doin good. I'd say Im up roughly 1500 (I dont keep actual records or anything, Im going on doing the math in my head memory) so Im in good shape.... lets hope it keeps getting better |

Why not?
Zy, you are obviously a pretty serious player. Do you not find keeping records helpful? I've posted about this before, but I think it pretty important to know how you are doing at various games/levels.

Not to mention for tax purposes, but that's another thread entirely.
