Got my first big check in the mail today... $2,555.00
Pretty sweet, my parents couldnt beleive it lol.
Also decided to move up to $2/4 NL tonight which went very well as i went from 400 to 800 in about an hour. Means nothing I know but i think i like 2/4.
A few less complete idiots but i find it easier to put people on hands here, plus my bets get alot more respect, which can be a good or a bad thing but i like it.

Sry for the pretty pointless update, but i was just excited.

Also, anyone else feel free to update with dumb stuff like this, I'm nosey and interested cuz none of my friends play with any type of real money so their stories of .1/.2 get pretty boring.

And- happy to stay i am still sticking with my bankroll technique of keeping 1/3 my money online, and 2/3 of it cashed out. I think its perfect for me for a number of reasons and im gonna keep stickin to it for awhile now.

Ok, here's my random, somewhat related though:

I played my first hands of 20/40 and 30/60 in this past week. I decided to play some higher limit cash games to see how it went. So far, so good, but these are TOUGH games with solid players. I've literally seen one fish feeding the entire table and as soon as he busts out, the table breaks up. You don't see that nearly as much as 5/10 and 10/20 (and lower, of course), because there are significantly less sharks and more fishies.

In all honesty, I think the lower limit games may be more profitable for me... Even with the lower stakes, I think I might still win more when all is said and done, because there are SO MANY more mistakes by the other players. TBD, I guess.

Oh, and for the record, while these stakes are technically "within my bankroll," it does *feel* a bit weird throwing around that much money when you're not used to it - and that's very important too. I don't think I let it affect my play, but it's in the back of my mind.... so for now, I think I'll stick to 10/20 or so for my cash games. I want to focus more on tourneys anyway.

I dont think that this point can be underemphasized. Even if you have the standard 300 bb roll for a game, if the stakes intimidate you in anyway then it is probably best to play at a lower limit until you feel completely comfortable making the leap. Until you feel completely comfortable at the higher level the lower game will be more profitable, because you will play much closer to optimally, irregardless of the level of your competition.

Yup... I can play 15/30 6 max without hisitation, but at 30/60, I feel myself tighten up a bit (And more importantly, become a bit more passive), and I don't think that's a good thing. In fact, I'm certain it's a bad thing.

Well, it depends.

I think you can play two ways in limit. First, you can play more conservatively and earn a smaller average profit with less variance. Or you can play more aggressively and earn a larger profit at the price of more variance.

Getting comfortable at a new level while playing in the former style is not necessarily bad. Just my opinion.

I know exactly what you are saying.. it all seems DOUBLE, so huge, new, etc.. but how are you ever going to get used to the "new" level if you do not play and get used to it. I felt intimidated, and had to get used to things when I first went from .25/.50 to .50/1. However, I stuck in there, got used to it, and advanced my game.

Obviously if you can not handle the level because the play is better, etc, you would not hand in there just to try and get used to it. You should give it a try though.

You may have missed my other point. I believe (right or wrong) that the lower limit games (as low as 5/10, in fact) are SO MUCH softer, that my increased BB/100 at those limits will more than compensate for smaller BBs.

Still just a theory though, but certainly there will be less variance at the lower limits (in $, not in BB).
