Last Night
Me this morning.
"Unggggh...so groggy, what happened last nite? I had an awesome dream, but I sure slept like shit." Check email. Pokerstars support. "No way" Open Pokerstars account, go to cashier. *rub eyes*... "HOLY SHIT!" Yeah thats really what happened. Playing poker for 8 hours straight right before bed messes with you, lol. Last nite changed me. To say that I gained some confidence would be a little short of describing how I feel this morning. I played my fucking heart out last nite, and everyone knew it. And that means more to me than winning the whole thing. Yes it was won by an online pro in the end, but playing with him made me realize that I could have what it takes to be in his shoes. Heck, I HAD him, he was MINE. One thing I will say is that he was very aggressive, and when I had hands to push him back with, he would get lucky. I did not feel outclassed in any way, no matter what those railbirders said about me. I had the support of my crew and thats all that mattered to me. I wish I could take back the hand I went out on . Honestly thats all thats been going through my head since I woke up. I made a bad play on the river that cost me my tournament. I will post that hand, as well as others (believe me theres alot) in the advice section once I get a chance to sort though this huge hand history file. All in all, I'm very happy with myself right now. The money I won for third was about 75% of my bankroll. I pretty much doubled it in one night! Apart from that is knowing that I can play with the best, and also the respect I earned from the railbirds (you know they were just jealous ). Keep an eye out for me in this tournament in the future. I think it suits my style perfectly. That and I'm a cheap ass student. One last thing: Do Not FUCK. with ProjectMayhem!

I think a lot of people don't check the Railbird section unless they are in the mood to railbird (Which is perfectly reasonable, of course), but there is often a lot of good stuff in there, especially when people go deep...
Anyway, here's Mayhem's tourney from last night: |

Awesome job Mayhem... can't believe a college student has a wad of cash that size in his pocket now. I think the most I ever had in the bank while in college was probably in the neighborhood of $250. Of course, when I was in college Reagan was President and some of you here weren't even born yet. But I digress...
Sweet cash!!

I distinctly remember making my final $10 withdraw one day during my sophomore year. The ATM receipt said my balance was $3.16, which was all the money I had in the world (plus the 10 bucks in my wallet that was about to be spent). I taped it to the mirror in my dorm room, as a reminder to never let myself get that broke again, and fortunately, I never did. I wonder if I still have that thing somewhere...
I'm honestly glad poker wasn't popular when I was in school. It definitely could have been a problem for me - not just financially, but because I would have undoubtedly missed out on some of the best times of my life... |

Thanks Real Deal.
Im pretty lucky to have a sweet temp job at a factory right now. I worked my balls off all summer as a student replacement worker, (almost 60 hour weeks) every week, and made some decent bank. I was rewarded with a temp contract for the school year, so now I work one or two days a week, plus double time for weekends. Needless to say, thats enough to pay for tuition and books and still have enough left over to party on the weekend. Oh yeah, I've never actually made a deposit for online poker. I got my start playing for play chips about 2 years ago at some junk site that I dont even remember the name of anymore. Then last april one of my friends from school tells me about pokerstars. I switched to play money on there and quickly learned how to play O8. Before long I had over 1 million in play chips. a month later that same friends tells me he found a dude online that buys play chips. He was offering $15 for 1 million. I thought hell what do I have to lose, I cant believe this guy has a business buying something that is FREE and then selling it to dumbasses for a profit. got that first 15 and promptly lost it at the cash games. I didnt give up though and worked my remaining play chips back to over 1 million again. Chose to hit some cheap O8 sngs, won a bunch to bring me to 100, cashed that out and started bonus whoring. Got enough to buy an Ipod Photo, left 100 in the neteller, and now here I am today. TP your definitely right about poker being a distraction at this age. I pride myself on keeping my priorities straight though. Family, School, Friends, Poker (,and some video games in there too, im a nerd.) Everything works out great and my favourite hobby mingles with everything else in my life. My dad loves playing play money on the net, and we play heads up for stupid stuff like beers or who has to barbecue that night. My school is part of the tour and they come around once a month for a free tourney that is fun as hell. (click the schools link, then click university of windsor to see a pic of me at the final table. Thats me right in the middle with the baseball cap and ridiculous shortstack. ) Almost all of my friends play poker, so theres always a game going whenever enough of us guys are around. They all play for fun, and I'm the only one who plays online. Even though Ive been making money, moving up limits and getting better online, I would rather sit at our poker table, drink beers and watch football with my boys any day of the week. University life has been amazing so far, and I still have at least 3 more years of it. If I ever let this silly little card game get in the way of it, someone please punch me in the face.

It truly is the best time of your life and it sounds like you know that and won't let poker get in the way of it. That's a great attitude, don't lose it!! And, good luck with school!!
