I'm not winning at the rate I want to, but it's not terrible either. This is 20k+ hands at 3/6 shorthanded.

Looking at my last 22k or so 6 max hands for comparison (keep in mind, mine are all 5/10).....

Our stats are fairly similar, but my BB/100 is more than double what yours is. Because of the different stakes, my earn rate per 100 hands is 4 times what yours is. and believe it or not, my numbers are actually skewed down, as I won quite a bit more in the previous hands did I did on this 22k sample.

I can be more detailed for you later if you like, but the general differences I am seeing right now:

I am a bit looser than you preflop.
I am a bit more aggressive than you across the board (see below).
I call a little bit more than you on the river (this give me a lower showdown percentage, but I think it makes me more money).

The one huge difference I see is check raises. You check raise almost three times as often as I do. Your CR breakdown is roughly: 70% flop, 30% turn, and 1% river. Mine is 6% flop, 80% turn, and 13% river. That is a HUGE difference between us.

Aggression. Looking at out stats, I *thought* I was more aggressive than you, but your aggression factor is over 3. Mine is just under 2. Maybe this is because of the check raises...?

All in all, I think your numbers look good. To get them to look more like mine (not saying that would necessarily be a good thing), you would need to play a few more hands, raise a litte more preflop, and play a little more straightforward poker in general: Less check raises, slightly more betting for value ( that's a guess), slightly less folding on the river.

All in all though, I think you should be happy with these results.

Tp, what about your blind defense numbers, are they similar or different? (Overall, not just for 20,000 if you have that handy) I know i'm very liberal about seeing a flop in the blinds(especially the BB), and it seems to be good for me, but I don't know for sure(unfortunately no PT).

You guys both askled pretty much the same question, so here is the breakdown. To anyone else reading along, remember, these are all short handed numbers...

I'll list your numbers first, and then mine (all rounded):

Folded SB to Steal: 81%, 77%
Folded BB to Steal: 69%, 57%

Looks like I defend my BB more than you. I'd say that's a significant difference, but in all honesty, I'm not sure that's correct (defending more). I tend to think your numbers are better here. Let's find out...

Per Hand Winrate from SB: -.10 BB, -.05 BB
Per Hand Winrate from BB: -.12 BB, -.16 BB

So, my My SB numbers are better overall and we defend about the same there. My BB numbers are worse though, and I defend more. Interesting how different those numbers are.

Went to SD: 32%, 36%
Won $ at SD: 58%, 55%
PFR: 14%, 18%
(very similar - consistent with everything else)

BB:
Went to SD: 28%, 28%
Won $ at SD: 55%, 53%
PFR: 7%, 7%
(all but identical)

I'm honestly not sure what conclusions to draw from that. I don't think much is statistically significant. If anything, I'd say I might defend my BB a hair too much...

In regards to my aggression numbers.....

those have went down actually!!!!

But, I wasn't too aggresive actually. I wasn't calling enough. I was folding too many hands with outs. I bet my overall WTSD% is low because of it.

I've corrected it, but I still think I could improve. I've begun to be a bit more passive in hands where I am only going to fold out my opponent if I raise and other situations where the expert play is to play a bit more passively.


All of the #s are interdependent on each other. If you see a difference in a couple categories, you have to think how they correlate. What does that say about your play?

What does what say about my play? I'm sure there's room for improvement (and I love comparing numbers like this and thinking about it), but I can't complain about my results too much. Since I've kept records (42k 6 max hands at Party skins alone), I'm at 3.13 BB/100. I can live with that

My point about the numbers is I don't know that most of the differences between yours and mine are large enough to be significant, given the sample sizes... that's all.

First the disclaimer: I don't use any data mining tools like PT and I don't play short-handed.

The biggest point I can make is that if you're a profitable player *and* you're winning less than 60% of the time at showdown, you're not folding too much on the river.

Turn play is where the real skill comes in, and I don't know if I'm skilled enough to make any generalized comments here, but my suggestion is to post some hands that you took to showdown and lost with the goal of examining turn decisions.

Also, don't get too hung up on the difference between your win rate and TP's. If 3% of the hands you lost at showdown turned into wins, and vice versa for him, your win rates would be much closer. Be careful of overvaluing small differences in stats. I'm a firm believer that there are three levels of untruth in life: lies, vicious lies, and statistics. That being said, big differences should stand out. In this case the cr % differences between TP and yourself - which seems to indicate that TP's additional earn comes on the turn.
