ive fallen and i cant get up
god this week has just been one of those weeks...
just got done with a 2 1/2 hour session where i literally folded 99% of the hands. the only good hand i saw was KK once, which netted me a whopping 3XBB pot. every other hand (and no, i'm not exaggerating) was T2o, 93o, 62o, J2o, Q3o, 94s, 5To, ET-FUCKING-C. how do you drag yourselves out of funks? it seems like when i get into these funks i start overthinking my play, sometimes tightening up so badly because i think i'm playing incorrectly. what are some of the mechanical kinks you find yourself doing in these funks? |

Welcome to the wonderful world of grinding it out. The cards get cold sometimes, it happens. Your not gonna win money no matter what you do during those streaks so the more you save the better off you will be in the long run. Be honest with yourself, especially at limit play, there are times when you are dealt cards that simply play themselves into winning big pots, during those times do you still think your a bad player and just getting lucky with the cards? Limit play is much more mechanical than no-limit play, the less mistakes you make with bad to marginal hands the better off you'll be. You can't honestly think it's a good idea to start playing Q7 because it's the best hand you've seen in 20 minutes.

Fold shitty cards. Hey, at least you're not losing more than the blinds every orbit.
Last night was strange. I was playing two tables of $100NL and my Party Step 1. I must have "waited" for an hour ... then, within a window of maybe 5 minutes, I doubled up at my one table, won a $50 pot at the other, and then took first in my Step tournament. It's crazy how shit works out like that. Multitable, and wait for your good hands.

obviously saying "fold all your crappy hands" is tough to do. sometimes i've been grinding for so long, so many days straight that i get SO BORED sitting there clicking fold 200 times an hour. i find myself limping with hands like QTo, KXs, and other marginal type hands. it seems that even when these hands hit, i'm up against the bigger flush, or a big pair. guess i just have to keep folding.

Yea, it is best to keep folding. Don't let go of any money - especially when you're frustrated making bad calls.
Nothing's forcing you to play poker. I don't know how much you play, but maybe you should give it a break for a day (or more or less). At least when you get back on the tables, you'll be fresh.

or switch games
When i feel myself feeling 'ansy' - i switch games. I play some O8B or some Stud. or maybe a few sit n goes. Obivoiusly, if you dont feel comfortable playing the O8B or whatever, just play at low stakes and have some fun.
Or like Aeq suggested - take some time off. That is actually probably the best advice. |
