2010 – how’d you do?
I finished … drumroll please … up $97. Sure beats being down, but given that spans 45 live game sessions averaging about two to three hours each, I’m making less than $1 an hour. Granted, that includes a lot of comped meals, tips, etc., and most people have hobbies that cost them money, but still …
The easiest way for me to increase my winnings in 2011 would be playing fewer tournaments. I’m up overall in 3/6 to 2/10 limit cash games. But I gave most of that back in tourney entry fees, where my choice is to play either low entry events with weaker players but a total crapshoot structure, or high entry tourneys in Vegas where my opponents are better MTT players than I am. Neither is +EV. Either that, or hit more huge miracle hands. Monte Carlo board at one of the rooms I play at is now paying over $10k for a diamond royal flush, both cards must play. Fingers crossed …

Sadly, I haven't played poker much this past year. Won nearly every home game that I played, but total that was maybe $200. Looking to play more this upcoming year, but that is probably unlikely.

+$303
And it FEELS like a losing year since I was -$809 in SNGs Although that was over 1025 SNGs abi $27 (ROI -2.67%), I got annoyed enough that I basically stopped playing SNGs the 2nd half of the year. On the surface, that looks like a bad decision since it's a small losing ROI and looks just like variance. OTOH, my level of frustration was so high that it was probably not that bad a decision My MTT year was good, +$751 (169.04% ROI) at Stud/8, +$93 at mixed game multis (+18.09% ROI), +$92 in NLHE multis mostly $3 R&A (+3.81% ROI) -$158 in cash games and I vow to never play 6 max PLO again.

I had a winning year, but underground NYC games have gotten extremely tough to grind off of, as the rakes are through the roof now at many games. Players still suck and the games do have potential but you are losing so much profit to the chop it's unreal.
I'm going to have a make a relatively big decision pretty soon

how far are you from deleware park Zybomb?
It might be a little drive for you but might we worth it to you, im sure a public cardroom would be a hell of a lot easier to beat then a underground game.

I took a good chunk of time off in 2010 after a nasty downswing, and was happy to fight back to +60kish. I spent more than that on travel, although I don't plan on doing that again for some time!
I don't know if I'll keep playing poker in 2011. It is hard to stay on top of the games playing only a few hours a week. I am working full-time now which drains my time and energy, and I have a geekier money-making scheme than poker that I am spending my time on now. Wish you all the best in 2011 and I will probably keep lurking/posting here |

well of course moving closer to say AC would be ideal but if you didnt want to move (I hate moving its a bitch) couldnt you do like 4-5 trips a week to AC instead. Im sure you would make enough through the week or month to handle any expenses you get in the trips (gas, food, tips etc), or maybe even get hotel for like Wed - Sun and take off Mon and Tues at home. Im sure you could figure out a way to manage it without having to actually move if you dont want to.

I have only been there twice before but from what I have seen it looks nice, good dealers....well ok some are not that great for example.
at 1/2 table get down to the river board is 3 flushed, guy asks other guy how much you got in front of you. Other guy says like around $60 then 1st guy says ok im all in (he has K high flush). $60 guy says ok I call and he pulls enough money out of his pocket to cover the whole all in by the bigger stack and of course he has ace high flush. Player didnt know any better and didnt call floor and dealer was pretty clueless but when we mentioned it to other dealers they were like thats bullshit so I think it was just this 1 dealer that made mistake. The run a lottery I think every night for seats into their nightly tourneys, if you sitting at the cash tables and your table and seat number come up you get free entry into the tourney. They dont like it but if you want you can GIVE you seat to someone and if they happen to give you money for it the casino dosent see that part. They have the standard bad beat jackpot and high hand bonus and they also have like 2 hours when if you aces get cracked you get like $100 or something. Other then that its just like a cleaner Atlantic city, I have never been to Charlestown so cant really compare.
