Default NFL Week 1

In keeping with my goal of publicly proving why I should not bet football here are my picks for week 1:

Miami -3 @ Buffalo

I normally shy away from AFC East division games, but the Bills just suck. The one thing that they did moderately well in recent years - rush the passer - they will be worse this year. Miami needs a strong start in what should be a 3-way race.

SF -3 @ Seattle

Straight out coaching pick. Mike Singletary vs Pete Carroll. Pete the poodle proved once he's out of his league in the NFL. bad judge of talent (that job's too easy at USC). SF is a real playoff contender but they have a tough start to the schedule and need to get off to a good start.

SUICIDE POOL: Tennessee at home vs Oakland

This is not a pick against the Raiders who I think will be a much improved team. I just think a Jeff Fisher coached team in a home opener is a good suicide pick. Raiders could be a factor in the AFC this year but they're not winning on the road vs a better coach with a top 5 O-line. I don't pick against the Bills here because I hate picking road teams in suicide pools.

Hope you didn't bet too much on SF.

One unit on each, so I'm 1-1 so far thanks to the late safety in the Miami game.

Still alive in the suicide pool, too!

It was correct based on the wording of the rule. Stupid rule, maybe, but the NFL does not want officials inferring intent.

Annoying, though. A Bears loss would've knocked 12 people out of my suicide pool.

According to the rule book they got the call right. Johnson is an idiot and cost his team the game.

Is the rule stupid? That's another discussion

In other news Jenkins is out for the season (surprise) and the Jets Offense looked pitiful, yet the game still should/could have been won if bullshit PI calls on uncatchable balls weren't called that result in TDs OR we were awarded 2 points for tackling an opposing player in their own endzone (thought thats what a safety was at least!!!!!)

On Kurns picks, I also took Tenn in my Suicide... but (this is obviously after the fact but I haven't read this until now) betting against Seattle as a home dog is usually bad. They're generally a pretty good home team and getting points on top of that
