Pretty sure shabi's gonna get fired for this...
Dude. I mean..... just.... dude.
Coach Shabi, talking about his BOYS basketball team: OK, humor fail. But seriously though, that's just brutal. |

that is a pretty well written article I think. It comes down hard on the winning coach while giving the losing team a little dignity without condescending them. And I love the prominent mention of the winning team hailing from a North Dallas Christian school. Got to think that is the rich douche-bag suburb of Dallas.

I'd like to see mention of where the points were coming from. It sounds like the starting point guard was on the entire game. Given the score at half, that is BS.
Applying that kind of pressure when you are up by more than 30 points in a high school basketball game is just no/low class. Put in your third string players and work on your static 1/2 court D.

I guess I'll play the asshole role.
Just because you're up a lot your supposed to take it easy on your opponents? You play your best the entire game. Fuck that. In Junior High School we used to go to the local sports cards/comics stores which had arcade machines in the back.... it was right when Mortal Kombat II first was released and it was the hottest game around. There'd literally be 4 or 5 people waiting at all times for next game. Some of the better players would stick around for a long time (if you won you stayed on). Alot of the time if they dominated their opponents in the first round they'd beat them down to almost no life in the second round and then let them have it to make things more interesting and also prolong the game for a 3rd round. I remember this happened to me one time where the guy beat me round 1, had me round 2 but then gave it to me, and then I beat him round 3 and knocked him off the machine! Im sure he didnt do that too much more often (in fact he got back on a few games later and wiped me out in 2 rounds and said "no mercy kid" after beating me in the 2nd round) The game was scheduled and thus the teams should play to the best of their ability regardless of the score. Taking it easy because your up a lot is foolish....not "being a good sport". If anyone acted stupidly it's the other coach for scheduling a game which he knew wouldn't be competitive or close. In boxing if you win the first 8 rounds in dominating fashion should you just sit there and not do anything for the remaining 4 rounds? Ask Former Ohio State Football Head Coach Woody Hayes who during the Michigan/Ohio State season finale went for two after scoring a TD despite a 36-point lead..... when they asked him why he went for two he instantly replied "Because I couldn't go for three." Thats a man! While that example is probably going too far (it was a bitter rivalry though which changes things), continuing to play as normal and score points is not at all imo . To quote "If it couldn't stand the heat of playing superior talent, it shouldn't play the game (losing team). If players can earn a 100-point victory, they deserve it."

In a high school game (going as far as to assume that there were no scouts there for college recruiting), I think it would be reasonable to take it a little easy and let them have a shot at a few baskets to make it a little less embarrassing for the other team (if nothing else).
If you think you clobbered them down to 0-80 and they are going to miraculously come back to win the game if you don't play 100%, you have read the tortoise and the hare too many times, my friend. Even the Harlem Globetrotters don't shut out the their opponents. Who wants to see a 100-0 game?

is anyone else thinking that this is a great story-line for a girl on girl orgy porno? Talented Christian School Girls vs "Problem" Girls. The game is a blowout, the after game is mind-blowing- that type of thing? Work with me people......

I just can't see how two teams could be SO lopsided that no points could be scored. It's not like we're talking the Lakers vs. some 7-year olds. Both of these teams play at the same level correct? How is it that one team could be so dominating?
I see the winning coach got fired. Bet the losing coach doesn't fare much better come the end of the season... |

I have seen it come close in our county. There was a game between a school of 300 that only ran a senior team and a school of 1600 that also played host to a travel provincial team.
You get a bunch of kids who have only played a little on the playground in an undeveloped program against a team full of kids who have been playing organized ball for 6 years. Usually schools of such different sizes only meet in tournaments, but if conferences get small, the range of ability gets greatly magnified.

Thanks! I've never really been into sports so it truly was a sincere question - I honestly couldn't see two teams in the same league/division/whatever being so lopsided on the court.

I would agree 100% if this were a pro game and maybe if this was a college game, but for a high school game...meh
I don't see any reason to leave starting players in (on any level) or using a press after halftime or similar play styles. These girls are 14-17. There's no reason to continue pounding them in to submission if it's 60-0 at halftime or whatever the hell it was. You don't "let" them score. But, you don't play your starting defense and try to steal the inbound. Play some sort of standard zone and work on your half court offense by passing the ball 5 times and shooting after the shot clock runs down 20 seconds.
