Tournament or cash games? Big difference.

Most pros point the finger at Chip Reese.

LOL...

Cash games, Reece seems to be the man. But from what I've seen, Phil Ivey is the best and Negreanu is right up there, especially if you consider tournament play. Those two get my vote. It's so hard to say who is the single best player though...

Chip and Ivey are the 2 best NL players in the cash games.

As for tourneys, Negreanu is currently running really hot by winning the Bellagio end of the year event then finishing 3rd at WPO.

Also Phil Hellmuth has 9 WSOP bracelets in HE... so all-time he has the bracelets to back it up even tho he hasnt done anything in a few years.

At this point gotta go with Daniel N. He's hot. Watched the heads up battle with Freddy Deeb a few weeks ago (from awhile ago), and his play was amazing. Simply amazing. I know we dont see all the hands, or even close, but in the heads up duel, he made 1 small call with a draw when he was behind. thats it 1. Amazing. When I first started really getting into poker I thought he was a bit of a schmuck, but he is the man. No doubt. Well him and Chip Fish of course.

Tournaments it's Negreanu followed by Juanda. Cash games it's Ivey or Reese. Negreanu I believe it was estimated Ivey's winnings at around 20mil last year in cash games. Must be very nice.

Default hey

Ive read alot about Ivey and how he got where he was. He busted his ass to get as good as he is and is modest as hell about it. Someone interviewed him saying he was the Tiger Woods of poker and he was like no Tiger Woods is the best in his carrer and he said I dont think im the best so Im no Tiger Woods. I like Ivey alot really down to earth, hell he aint no Hellmuth for sure. Which reminds me just re-watched parts of the tornament of champions where Hellmuth said Howard was playing like a amature....ehhehe.

Default Negreanu

I think Daniel Negreanu is the best NL poker pro he won the most money on the WPT last season and he seems to be at every final table including the WPO just a few weeks ago. It seems to me like he knows what to do in every sitauation. He is so young also imagine how good he will be in 10 years with more experience and practice. This guy is awesome!!

Let's see... Winning while he's young....
10 years from now, what will Dan Negraneau be like?

I am picturing Phil Helmuth now.

I would have to say Dan Harrington would be the best tourney player just by the way he has proven himself over the last 2 years. Best player I like Gus because of his style of play... but who really knows. Maybe Dan was just the luckiest player the last 2 years.

It is tough to argue with any of the names thrown out in this thread so far, but I will have to agree with the original poster. The style of Gus Hansen, along with his unbelievably funny, but effective, facial contortions, make Gus hard to figure out. I remember seeing a special tournament of 10 pros a few weeks back (probably a re-run or something) where Gus knocked out every pro at the table. Each pro stated the same thing during their post-tourney interview... Gus is tough because no one could predict what two cards he is playing this time.

Also on my list would be Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu.

I have heard that Chip Reese is the best cash player in the game, but since I don't see those games, it is tough for me to have an unbiased opinion.

Tourney players I have to say:

Danny Boy (2 WPT wins and 3 WPT final tables this season so far) and
Dan Harrington (back to back final tables at the WSOP main event)

Cash players I have to say:

Chip Reese and Phil Ivey

I would also add to the cash list Johnny Chan and Gus Hansen....yes Gus Hansen. Just last week he was playing heads up cash game with Phil Ivey with blinds set at $4000/$8000 and he had a massive lead on Ivey. This happened at the Commerce Casino during the WPT Invitational.

Was there ever a doubt that Negreanu is the best poker player on the planet period. I mean, it also doesn't hurt that he is from the center of the universe right here in the T.O.
