jesus Zy, that is terrible. The thread you linked is a testimony to both the victim and the 2+2 B&M community.

I know you prefer live to online and I am not going to preach to you, but be careful out there.

This is awful. Really hard to read.

Seriously, Zy, I know you love playing in these places, but this is something you have to consider. Sure, it's a VERY small chance that you'll get killed at one of these games (100,000:1? more? Who knows?), but it's certainly a much higher chance than you getting killed playing online at home - especially when you factor in the car ride there and back.

I used to play live quite a bit here. As the game got bigger and the players got shadier, I started having second thoughts. When one dealer realized there was often $15k or more on the table, he decided it would be a good idea to bring a gun, just in case. This was an eye opener for me, and I didn't really go back after that.

Be careful.

Sometimes reality jumps up and bites you on the ass, and if you're lucky, all you get is a sore ass, figuratively speaking.

As we strive to establish/protect our freedom to play poker, it's very easy, especially for the younger folks who've come to the game, to be ignorant to the dark side of (to put it bluntly) illegal activities.

When someone from the normally law-abiding world enters into this sort of place, they tend to be ignorant of the fact that since the enterprise exists outside the normal purview of law-enforcement, there is a greater risk that people with a tendency to break other laws may gravitate to these places.

It is useful for new people to the game to perhaps read some of the more colorful memoirs of TJ and Doyle, and take note of how often guns are mentioned.

As for Zy, I never got the impression he was the type to have blinders on with regards to the risk of underground clubs. For my part, I'd be more comfortable in an underground club where it was clear that the owners and the people watching the door were armed to the teeth themselves or at least had a level of tolerance to shenanigans equal to that of bouncers at strip clubs.

Maybe I'm jaded because I've spent much of my life either peripherally or directly involved with people who in one way or another were on the wrong side of the law, but the incident does not shock me. Saddens me, maybe, but doesn't shock me.

Keep your eyes open out there. Death rides a pale horse.

You guys who play in the underground games, be safe! A spot down in SC my cousin used to play in was robbed (luckily he wasn't there - Badblood has been there as well and he wasn't there either thankfully). Another spot shortly after was busted by the cops - my guess is to prevent another robbery.

Be safe kids... They should just f'n legalize it!!!

MD might have slots soon. Hopefully that'll open the doors for some table games here!
