Default League Points System

I am going be starting up my second annual homegame league next month and I wanted to rethink my player of the year format.

Last year, all players at the game (NLH tournament) earned points based on order of finish...

week 1, 12 players: 1st gets 12 points, 12th gets 1 point, etc.

We went with raw total. I liked that this rewards regular players (but maybe too much. Some good players were way out of the standings for missing a couple of games). I also like that it offered bigger rewards for winning bigger tournaments.

One suggested change this year was to do it as an average per week, with POTY status only available to players who have made it to at least half of the games. (there are 10 in total)
--------------------------------------------------------------
7 $5 tournaments
1 $1 with rebuys
1 $5 all bounty tournament
1 $10 deep stack main event
--------------------------------------------------------------
Any other creative ideas for determining player of the year? I want to get away from the old system since it gave OW91 and I an unfair advantage. We never miss our own game

We used to have a simple formula that I think worked well.

I used to just multiply the number of players by 10, and that would be how many points would be available that week (ex. 10 players=100 pts. available). Then we gave a % of those points to the top finishers of the week (usually top 6). You can adjust # and % as you see fit but we did something like....

1st=40%
2nd=25%
3rd=15%
4th=10%
5th=6th
6th=4%

Damn. I forgot about this thread. I read it at work and didn't have time to reply.

We based our formula pretty much how the league here ran (and the way DrewJax does it above)

10 x # entrants = points up for grabs.
6-9 players: 1st: 50% 2nd: 30% 3rd: 20%
10-12: 1st: 50% 2nd: 25% 3rd: 15% 4th: 10%
13-15: 1st: 45% 2nd: 25% 3rd: 15% 4th: 10% 5th: 5%
16-20: 1st: 40% 2nd: 25% 3rd: 15% 4th: 10% 5th: 6% 6th: 4%
We also give 5 bonus points for every person you knock out of the tourney.

If a non-league member finishes in a points position, those points are just cancelled and not re-assigned.
