My session last night
Only semi content here -- just writing about my session last night
Played in one of my local spots yesterday a 5/10, 500- 5000 Buy In. The average buy in was $1500- $2000 which is what I was in for. This was the third week the spot had run the game.... this week it played a little bigger. I'm kind of "taking a shot" in this game, since it's at the top of my comfort level (meaning any higher I wouldnt be 100% comfortable), and Im just barely properly rolled for it (assuming a 2k buy in) It plays a while when a young kid walks in and buys in for 5k. It was the first time a player baught in for the full 5k, as most players just kind of browsed the average stack and baught in accordingly. This player folds a few hands early and then starts to become extremely aggressive. He changed the whole table since he was opening so many pots and the average raise went from $40-$50 (before him) to $60-$90 (after him). A young kid, flashing an expensive watch and obviously has money -- so I ask him what he plays online.. Turns out he is Jared Ellington (or Errington) (SN: Ellington [or Errington] on most sites). I guess Im sitting with a high roller ok... one of the other players who I've played with at a few other clubs before, but havent really seen around here joins in the online discussion. Apparently he's a decent baller also. The SN was fsdouble (or something like that I think the first two letters are wrong, but it was some letters then double). He knew "ThisComesLast" saying he's played with him several times and that he was a beast. His online bankroll was in the 6 digits as well, although he said he played more PLO than Hold Em. Fortunately there were some donkeys in the game as well, my reason for staying. I significantly changed my game up since the kid was playing so aggressive. I was short stacked down to 1k at one point. Prior to this I had raised $60 with AJs after a few limps and Ellington had called me OOP HU. The flop came King rag rag, check checked I bet $100 he pushed on me and I folded. I now have AQs and make the same $60 raise after a few limps, against its me and him HU. The flop comes Q43, he checks I bet the same $100 and he pushes on me again. Given the history, I dont think there's any way I can fold here so I call -- blank turn river ace, he flips 34o and I get lucky. Im given some life and pick up AA a while later. There's a $30 straddle amd Ellington raises to $130 preflop. I repop $275 on top. The Straddler (donkey) smooth calls, Ellington pushes, and I call, as does the straddler. KK for the kid and QQ for the straddler. Flop Axx SHIP IT! I continued to play very tight, but get aggressive in selective spots and wound up logging a $3500 winner For the first time I felt though like I was playing with different players. I clearly had the smallest overall bankroll out of anyone on the table (although one or two players were probably close), the game was definitely different than the first two weeks they ran it. Im talking to Ellington later and he's telling me about the London trip he's takin for the tourny and Aruba etc (I guess he's sponsored and gets baught in to all these events) To be honest, although his aggression was 10 out of 10, he did make a few "strange" plays, a lot which wound up paying off (calling the flop on a gutter ball hitting the turn then moving all in and getting called..... calling a AAT5 board with 66 hitting the 6 on the river then stacking opponent). Eh, it was interesting to watch though. Ok this is probably too long already....

Nice post, Good job winning. I haven't heard of these players but I might look them up myself. Looked like fun, and you got a nice score.

I'm pretty sure you mean sdouble. Was his name Josh, and he's a kid with dark, curly hair? If so, I know him... We played in Aruba a good bit together in 2005 and I've run into him here and there since.
If you search on his name here, I'm sure you'll find some stuff I've written about him. Did you mention this forum to those guys? If not, you should have. Josh would have recognized the name, but more importantly - you need to get them posting here. |

Definitely do. I haven't seen him in quite a while (Bahamas 06?), but I'm sure he'd remember me.
