Default Heads-Up Smackdown...

I didn't even know this existed until bdawg sent me the link. It's a $500+30 tourney on .

Details here:

It's only open to the first 64 players to register. I'm not sure if I'll play or not (you can unregister until 30 minutes before it begins), but I just signed up anyway, and was the 51st person... so, 13 spots left.

I think the tourney looks way cool - my problem with it is that they play on Saturdays, when I'm usually not online. I doubt they would take THAT long though, so I can probably squeeze them in...

Any of you other HU ballers feel like playing? sjay? JD?

This starts this weekend... Guess I should get a little practice in, since I've never played a single HU match on .

Hopefully some of you will be around to rail on Saturday...

I wish they would publish the brackets, so I'd know who I'm playing and what path I'm going to need to take to get to the finals, but I guess they are waiting until the tourney start, in case anyone unregisters, etc.

I just got this in my email.

sjay/JD/etc - See bold, especially.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on that ring. The only problem is I just realized I'll be out of the country the weekend of the semifinals and finals. OOOPS.

I'll literally be on an airplane on the 4th... I MIGHT be able to play on the 5th, provided I can find internet access somewhere, but the 4th is going to be a problem for me. I guess if it comes down to it, I could change my flight...

So, I'm glad I decided to practice a little bit (3 matches). My UB options were all screwey - like, I had to click "No, don't show" every time I won a pot, etc. That gets old fast playing HU.

I'm all set now, and really looking forward to this. I'll post a railbird thread for sure, and may even record my match... I haven't decided yet. Even if I do it without audio, it would be cool t get feedback later on. Then again, I don't want future rounds' opponents to be able to track down my videos and have an edge on me, so even if I do record, I might not post it for a while.

Off topic (sort of) I think UB is having the Aruba satty this Sat or Sun 500 buy in, but i think 50-65 seats are guaranteed and there is an expected overlay.

It's a 50 seat guarantee... that looks pretty sweet. I might have to take a stab at that depending how my Sunday shapes up.

The brackets have been posted (see link in first post). Annoyingly, it looks like they were determined alphabetically. That's WEAK.

I'm playing in Match #28 - Tourney ID is 963168. My opponent is ShipItThisWay.

A quick internet search reveals that this guy is a UB HU specialist. $50/$100 NL, I might add.

is an interesting thread about him on FCP from last year. More interesting though, is , written by shipithisway on Pocket 5s in March of 2006. I'll skip the early stuff and get to the part where he entered the HU world, playing way above his bankroll:

Before seeing who my opponent was, I would have said my odds to win this 64 player tourney were probably between 75 and 100:1 (since a lot of these players are HU specialists). Now, I'd say it's probably more like 125:1.

But I'd still put even money on myself to win my match tomorrow. Print it.
