Fun $5 Main Event prop bet...
There are 337 players left in the Main Event - including very few well known players. The chances are very good that some unknown is going to win the whole thing again this year. So, which unknown is it going to be?
Here's what I'm thinking. For everyone who wants to play, ship $5 to Talking Poker on Stars. Then pick any of the remaining players in the field that no one has ever heard of (so no, you can't pick Gus), and post their name here. Whoever's pick goes the fartherst wins the entire pool. What do you think? You can find a list of people still alive in the Main Event . If you make a pick and someone else has heard of that player, they will say so, and you need to pick again. If even one other person wants to do this, I'm in. So.... pick away! (We'll need some sort of deadline on accepting picks - play resumes in an hour, but I don't know if that's enough time to get very many people in this. Thoughts?) |

New Rules I just thought of:
1. Instead of picking ONE player, let's say players cost $1 each and you can pick as many as five. That way, if you only want to spend $1 on 1 guy, you can still play. 2. I say we accept picks until 7:30 PM ET - that's more than 5 hours from now, which should hopefully give people plenty of time to see this thread and make their picks. For those of us who pick sooner rather than later, if any of our guys bust by 7:30, we get to replace them, so long as we do so by 8:00. If you think about it, it could actually be advantageous to pick early and have a player or two bust. 3. When you post your pick, just copy and paste the guy's name and chip count from . That way, we can see who has the balls to go with the real longshots. Winner take all. Last edited by Talking Poker; 07-13-07 at 02:16 PM. |

My picks:
Robert Damiano Melbourne Beach, FL 582,000 - This guy lives just a few miles from here. Quick research tells me he owns . Steven Jacobs Philadelphia, PA 1,127,000 - Philly boy with over a million chips (6th entering Day 4). He's had a few cashes in the past, but I doubt anyone has heard of him. If you have, I'll replace him. Kristian Obbarius Härnösand, Sweden 704,000 - OMG! Would you look at that name??? I definitely need a Swede on my team, and with a name like that, how can he NOT be our next world champion? I mean, seriously. Amanda Baker Las Vegas, NV 188,000 - I need a longshot in here for fun, so why not go with a (relatively short stacked) chick from Vegas? OK, I just cut Sven from my team when I noticed this name: Mickey "Mouse" Mills Ocean Beach, CA 545,000 - I played with this guy at the WSOP last year. Nice guy, so he's on my team. Please note - there is not a single stinking Canadian on my team! |

Since my lone Swede has been eliminated, I get to put in a replacement... so I'm un
According to , this happened one minutes later: I think I'll replace her with: Dagmartin Miikkelsen Norway 734,000 That way, I'll be able to make some ULTRA-lame "Dag, Martin!" joke at some point down the road. New team, since this has gotten a bit messy: Dagmartin Miikkelsen Mickey "Mouse" Mills Robert Damiano Steven Jacobs Sven Abelsson Runing This sure seems like a lot of work to win Kurn and Mayhem's combined $6, but screw you all, it's still fun. |

You got it.
In "I've heard of him, news," I'm keeping an eye on Kirk Morrison. I don't know if you guys caught his story, broadcast during the Event 3 coverage, but hge's good friends with the Negreanu, Cunningham, Juanda, et al group. I guess he got over his head in Vegas (sports betting, mostly), and just disappeared - for like 8 years. He went to New Zeleand or something. Well, he's back now, and WOW - imagine if he FT's the Main Event. That would be an awfully nice start to a comeback. |

Yeah, cause I read 2+2. Sure I do.
That's cool about this kid though.... Just turned 21 during the series. This is him: I see he sold shares of his Main Event... you too could have owned a piece at $120 for 1%. Sick. |

FWIW, I never assumed "noone else has heard of him" meant "nobody saw his stats on Sharkscope", (or OPR or whatever) TP wins fair and square.
