Default Goodbye Wil, Hello Daniel

Pokerstars/Wil Wheaton announced (sorry, no linky) earlier this month that they were parting ways on June 15th of this year. This brings to an end the weekly WWdN tourneys although Wil is reporting today that a group of regulars are creating a tourney to carry on the comraderie and fun that the WWdN grew to represent.

Pokerstars today that Daniel Negreanu is joining Team Pokerstars. In addition to him joining he's bringing along his Protege program.

In "separate" news, Full Contact Poker has that it is ceasing all casino and poker operations and merging those accounts in with Pokerstars. FCP will return to its origins as a forum based community as well as host to Negreanu's written and video blogs. In other words, it appears that Daniel is "buying back" FCP from the current owners and making it his personal site again (along with the community forum)

Personally, I'm quite excited about this. Pokerstars has long been my favourite site to play on and Daniel is definitely one of (if not my number one) favourite player. Combining them both? Coolness. Although I'm wondering how much/what they gave to the dude that currently has Kid Poker as his screen name on Stars???

I'm fairly surprised Full Tilt didn't push harder to get Daniel.... Then again, I guess I'm not, since he's been so vocal against some of their pros (that whole WPT lawsuit thing).

I noticed Daniel wasn't wearing any online poker sponsorship gear this year... He had a Corum (I think that's it - the watch company) on the side of his hat, and that was it.

Very smart move for Daniel, IMO.

I think this is great. I am a huge PS and DN fan. I just wish I saw PS pros online as much as the FT pros.
