I don't have any advice for your troubles with no-limit tournies, but I do have some about what games to get for your PS2

GTA: San Andreas - If you haven't had the pleasure of playing the new-age GTA games pick up this instant classic. It is not as addictive as the origonal, but just as entertaining.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 - In my opinion this is the best golf game made to date. You don't have to like golf to like this game...the graphics are in ridiculous and this game should keep you off tilt better than any other .

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Just play this game for five minutes and you'll be hooked.

Need For Speed Underground 2 - This is basically just to hold us over for Gran Turismo 4...still a good game though.

Madden 2005 - Name says it all

Games to pass on: High Rollers Casino, World Championship Poker, Ace Combat 5

There you have it, the best games on PS2 right now in my opinion...and you don't feel like a nerd as much.

I can’t necessarily offer advice, but something to keep in mind.

MTT payoffs by nature are going to be few and in-between. X percentage of your ring game sessions should be profitable (what X is would be another interesting thread – 70% maybe?), if even as low as a few BBs a night. But you can play a dozen straight big MTTs and not finish in the money, then on lucky 13 you cash in big and end up in the black overall.

The other thing is the luck element. I don’t know how big the fields are, but there’s definitely a ratio of player-to-coinflips you need to win in order to make it to the money. Perhaps it is for every 25 players in the tourney, you need to win at least one coin flip? And if you don’t, nothing doing, no matter how good a player you are. The luck factor is just too big.

When the hell do you find time for law school?

i agree completely with the tiger woods games. each one in the series has been unbelieveable. but never forget about the gran turismo series. those games are just unreal. i have been waiting for gt4 to come out for a while now, and i cant wait till it does.

play hands that are good enough to go all in with. Then when you have those, raise preflop, and auto raise on a non scary flop. When blinds get a little higher, start stabbing and hunting in the dark. thats abou tit.

Great picks. I have played all but NfS Underground 2, but, it's sitting here because I rented it tonight. Yay for me. Hah. Right now, my girlfriend is watching a DVD, so I'm forced to play PartyPoker on my laptop via wireless internet connection.

I look forward to playing it at the end of "Little Black Book."

Open Water, the new movie about two assholes lost at sea, was TERRIBLE.

Well, outside of just placing in the money, it's VERY tough to actually make money playing these things. I've read on RGP it can take 1/20 to actually see results. Harking back to an easier answer - it depends.

Whatever on that. I can make money money at ring games and SnGs. Sometimes depending on the nights - alot of money. It seems when I play in MTTs, I'm not making money ... I'm just "having fun playing in a tournament."

So what's more important? At this point, it's grinding out those BBs. I will still play MTTs, just not as frequently.

As for law school, I'm on break for winter until mid-January. Lots of PS2, lots of poker, add some drinking, maybe some other substances, and that adds up to a good time.

When law school starts back up, it'll be another 4 months of hell and then I graduate. Ka-Ching.

Thanks for replying, Tone.

Right now, I'm just playing on Party.

$10, $20 SnGs...
$25, $50 NL...
$2/4 L when the Bad Beat Jackpot gets high enough.

Well, no. I was broke right before Christmas. Then I took advantage of Party's deposit bonus, made more off that, and I'm back to where I wanted to be... even after dropping ~$100 in MTT buy-ins in the last week.

Pathetic, huh?

I've had a couple of big hits on multi-table (by big hits I mean in the 1000 range). Two live payouts over 1000, and one 600 payout online. Last night, I happen to come across the 5.00 turbo thing on Stars. It was pretty much a crapshoot, but I got 10/1297. I just missed the good payouts. I think 5th or better was all over 300 or 400. I play just like most solid players play. Tight at first, then loosen up as the blinds go up. I've played in a ton of these things, both live and online, and it boils down to this: You have to get your chips in with the best hand, and if they hold up you will finish well. I'm good enough that I almost always have the best hand against the other person, but sometimes they just don't hold up. The three "major" payouts that I've had, I can't remember taking too many bad beats. Between one and three bad beats will knock you out most of the time when the blinds are high. You get on these rolls where it seems like you can't be beat, and during those moments you even seem to suckout right at the right moment. It doesn't happen often, but there really is no feeling like it. Just keep playing, it will happen sooner or later.

Inspiring words my friend...I have a thing for the large field small buy-in multi-tables because they are a lot of fun when the field thins down. Early on it's just ABC poker and then you have to get lucky once your in the money. I have yet to catch a really good run of cards for an entire tourney and I usually get knocked out late by a coinflip or better. Last $5 buy-in I was on the rise in chips and then moved in with AK and took a pretty tough beat. Wish I had the time to compete in these more often because if nothing else they are good for expierence.

Default Coin Flip

I have been getting more interested in these and playing a few. I placed 4th, 99th, and 30th in my last three which is pretty good. Grand total profit of like 420 maybe.

I think you have to build a big stack by taking chances and getting a little lucky. Wait for the good cards, but try to keep pace. I find you have to go all in with something decent and win the coin toss a couple of times to make the good money.

The thing I want to try is building a large stack earlier in the tourney, instead of scrambling for one towards the end. Both methods could work but it is hard to hang in there waiting at the end. Playing a few more hands towards the beginning and hitting a flop just right might get you the chips you need to make it at the end.

I will let you know how it goes.. The SNGs and ring games are easy money though. The MTTs are VERY hard to place in. In my 4th place finish there were a few times when I had 4 to a flush, and I had to go all in, and win the coin-toss to continue on. However these risks catapulted me to the final table. Another example was last night when I had KK, all in one seat before me, I think, and call. I see him turn up QQ instead of AA. It was a calculated risk but it got me into the 30th spot. I then took the risk with JJ vs KJ and lost. I was favored, got all my money in, and if I had won I would have been catapulted to the final table. As is I went out with a very small amount of money and felt that I made the right play.

Default Yes.

They're fun to play in, but if I have to rely on winning coinflips all night, I'm better off playing in a loose ring game or ANY SnG where I have better EV.

That's the conclusion I've been coming to.
