Longest Breakeven Streak
Hey guys,
I dunno if many of you use PT or track your wins/losses much, but I was wondering what your longest breakeven streak is. Like if your BR was 2k, then you lose a few sessions and it took you 2 weeks to get ot 2k again, then your breakeven streak is what? That's right, 2 weeks . For me, my longest breakeven streak lasted 3 weeks. It happened in October. I had a nice start, going up 6 buyins in 10 hours. then I lost 200 of it and was on a little bit of that long lasting tilt combined with a dry run... It was unpleasant, to say the least . C'mon guys, I'd really like to know.
Another question some of you might laugh at... Have any of you had a month where you didn't win money? This is something I haven't experienced yet, and think it's important for every developing player. Cheers, Gutzz |

Oh yes ...
More than once I've had losing months. A few months after I started playing regularly, I had a more than a few horrible beats (which in retrospect I probably partially brought on myself), didn't have enough of a bankroll to handle it, and lost everything I had on Party. I think this happens to a lot of players. Granted it wasn't much, but it sure hurt at the time.
More recently I have some months that are better than others. In fact, Dec. was looking tough until the last week or so on the BB tables made up for it. But as a whole, I'm pleased to report that I end most months in the black, though sometimes by the slimmest of margins. For the year, I'll be up nicely. |

I've had breakeven streaks a lot longer than that, and yes, I've had losing months. You will too - It's all part of the short term vs. long term thing. The top PROS in this game have losing years. It happens.

Exactly like you said, December was looking shitty for me until the jackpot tables this last week. I was ready to finish the month right around even, maybe up or down a little until then. Before that, I thought I'd be up 400-500 BB every month no matter what.
But my longest break even streak had to be close to a month. From the time I made my bold "moving up to 3/6 because I'm just the greatest player ever thread" in late November until just recently. It was scary actually. Made me question myself on a few levels though, and although I was playing well, I still got to plug a few holes from all of the "soul searching." Here's to a great 2005. |

A pro having a losing year... That sounds nasty.
Ok so the usual roll people toss around is 300 BB. If a pro makes his living off poker, and presumably manages his money well, and has a losing year, what kind of a roll do they have? 2kBB? Gutzz |

2k BB?
As high as that seems to a low-limit, recreational grinder like myself, it might not be that far off. Figure a low-level pro plays, what, 30/60? So that means a 120k roll, which sounds pretty reasonable.

All the time..
I have had two times like you describe. Once while pushing to get to 2/4 from 1/2. I ended up staying at 1/2 for an extra two weeks.. the cards just never hit me. The other one was recently when I tried 5/10 and went on a little dive. I am still trying to make that up. I compounded it with extra mistakes, which was dumb. I am trying to claw my way back now.. Variance of weeks and even months and years happens. Its just the way it it. |
