Any High Stakes Players here?
So many of the threads around here are regarding low limits, and even micro-limits. Does anyone here play for high stakes? I realize that term is relative, so I'll be more specific...
Does anyone here regularly play $15/$30 and up? |

Self-selection?
Could it be a product of the nature of the forum? Don't get me wrong -- the quality of the posts I see here are worlds better than RGP and much of the content is richer and more thoughtful than what goes on at either 2+2 or Cardplayer's forums, though obviously the volume is much smaller.
But I imagine that a pay-to-post site will inherently attract (articulate?) micro-to-low player willing to put the time in to earn $25 or $50 while hopefully improving their game, while higher limit players wouldn't be as motivated to do so. |

Are most of those guys playing on 15/30 level pros? Like they do this for a living. That level just seems extremely high...even if you're a really good player.

What would ones bankroll to play 15/30? I know what the roll is for a 3/6 player but it seems like you would have to be a pro to play for that type of money.

Well, I guess that answers my question.
Good point, 2Tone. When the PPP ends in a couple of weeks, I hope we can attract some higher stakes players to this forum too... |

hopefully in a few months/years we can all answer yes to your question TP.
as of right now though, I am definitely in the low limits category. 1/2 online mostly, and up to 5/10 in live games for me. |

So, this forum is pretty Busch League huh?
2/4, is my game. Ventured into 3/6 for a period of about 15 hours and got bounced out like a little bitch. If I stay on my current pace for moving up the ladder, I should be high stakes in less than two years. |

To be honest, I don't just play to win cash . I usually play .25/.50 or .50/1.00, reason being I usually have lots of distractions around me when I'm playing. When I finally get an underwriting position at an insurance company I will likely increase my limits, but for now I'm happy to have already cashed ou $50 profit and leaving $500 laying around online. I have only ever played on 3 sites so I can still become a big bonus whore, and eventually I will get around to using a few of TPs links (sorry I haven't had a chance yet bud), but finding a job right now is my #1 priority because $14.56 an hour isn't going to cut it. I'm slowly trying to build to about a grand before I move to 2/4 or 5/10, so I figure the amount I play (not often) maybe in about 3-4 months I'll be able to bump up to a decent, respectable game. But for now, I have low limits down cold and see no reason to venture into higher limits yet.

If you bonus whore properly (and take advantage of the reloads as they come in), you'll be up to that grand in no time.
No hurry, of course... it's good to hear your have your priorities straight. GL to you. |

Geoff,
The difference between 2/4 is very big. Very, Very Big. And you seem to use them in the same breathe. I think your 1k bankroll goal is suited for 2/4, but you will need much more at 3/6. I tried to go from 2/4 to 3/6 with a 2500 bankroll. Played for 15 hours and was down a $500. I'm a good limit player too. Just a small bad run cut me down big time. Figured I wanted to get another 1500 before I go back to that level. Other good players that I know have lost $1000 in a week playing 3/6 pretty easily. |

I know there is a large difference between low limit and 2/4. But I also don't play low limit drawing to almost impossible odds. I am fantastic at calculating odds on the fly, something that is necessary for O8B. As I said, I envision being an underwriter so risk assessment is my speciality. That being said, I have railed some 2/4 in the past to get a gauge and have found the play to be very weak there as well.
