SJay Hell of a report. LMAO. The funny thing is you will see crazy shit like this all the time when you play Live
On a different note, one other thing I forgot to mention in my response is the benefits of reads - What kind of chips they put in - How they put their chips in - Whether they announce their bet ("Fifty") or just place chips in - When raising how they raise either 1) Announcing raise while throwing in a call, then going back to raise 2) announcing raise and throwing all the chips in at once 3) just throwing in all the chips with no verbal action.... alot of the time one of these three ways shows strength, the other is an informational raise In addition to actual facial expressions body language etc. I've made several calls (and laydowns) live that I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to make on the internet. - The benefit of running business (HUGE to limit varience) and more. Random Note: I had another solid session last night both live and online, bringing me into the positive online for the year (finally) and cruisin along 4 figures overall for the year..

I wondered about these kinds of tells. Do you find there is a general pattern Zy or does it vary per individual?

It varies per individual -- and some people do the same thing everytime (i.e always just throw in a bunch of chips) BUT I can make a fairly good GENERAL analysis
- When a player announces his bet he is usually strong (if he was weak he normally wouldnt want to try and give away anything in his voice, so he just wouldn't say anything). When a player just puts in chips it could be either, but if he regularly does both, he's often weaker when he doesn't announce his bet - When raising, if a player calls first and then goes back for raising chips, he is usually strong (assuming he does both). If he raises with just one motion, it is usually mixed - When raising, if a player announces the total bet as opposed to how much he raises, he is often weak (assuming he does both) and is saying the total bet because it is a higher number which sounds more intimidating and thus more likely to enduce a fold. If they announce the smaller number (how much more ontop they are raising) it's often strength for the same reason (it makes the bet seem less) - When a player uses smaller denominations of chips for his bet, it usually means he is weak and is using more chips to make the bet seem psychologically bigger - As for how they put their chips in, its hard to describe, but how they release their chips, the force in which they throw them in and and their timing, can all give clues about the strength of their hand Again, these vary from individual to individual and sometimes don'tmean anything -- but if I had to generalize more often than not, this (above) is how I would do so

Remind me to never play half-pot poker. Actually, no reminder necessary.
Also, remind me to send Zy loads of false tells the next time I see him. Actually, that's not necessary either, because his "reads" on me would be mostly wrong anyway. |

Live poker is easier to pick up a read on a player, with body reactions, more talking, less talking, etc.
Online you don't get that.... which makes it a bit harder. Plus, live play is a lot less easier to NOT tilt (been there! LOL!)

Im boosting this thread back to the top -- with undeniable proof that live poker has worse players than online.
If anyone can show me instances which top these 3 I will be severely impressed. These three hands occured within 90 minutes or so at the same table HAND 1: Player goes all in for his last $111 dollars (a $106 raise) 5 callers. Flop comes 4 3 4 Player first to act MOVES ALL IN for $1700 into a dry side pot with 98o none of which was a club. Everyone folds. All in player turns over A4o for trips and scoops the pot HAND 2: Player raises preflop to $25, 2 callers. Flop comes K 7 8 Player bets $50, PFR raises to $200 next player smooth calls, bettor folds. Turn A . PFR checks, other player checks. River 2 . PFR checks then TURNS OVER HIS HAND K7. Opponent looks ta his hand and then bets $200 Now I understand maybe he is making a move bc he cant beat K7, so maybe I can justify a call somehow.... still I fold this.... does this player? No no no HE RAISES ALL IN FOR $300 MORE! Opponent calls with 5 4 HAND 3: UTG player moves all in for $300 with 55 with $5 and $5 blinds. SB calls with KK and busts him If this does not offer undeniable proof then I don't know what does

Those are some "strange" plays, yes. But have you ever considered that the idiots you play with would be just as bad (if not worse!) if they were playing online???
Maybe you have only proved that New Yorkers are stupid, and not necessarily live poker players. |

These are the same players that say "it's impossible to win online, the play is too tight" and refuse to play online
Eh, maybe it's NYers ... certaintly not saying there arent some sharks in the clubs as well, bc there definately are.... but they are at least equaled out by super donks

Hey crazy,
When did he say that he didn't? In fact, I think he was saying just that and using this as a case in support of Live Poker. |

Bingo!
The K7 genius, after busting out stated that he was about to go down to AC for the night -- I tried convincing him to stay for a while before leaving -- it worked nd he stayed another hour -- but I never got involved in a pot with him unfortunately
